Calmer Anthony Ersness, Sr., age 86, of Wolf Point, MT passed away Monday, January 8, 2007 at his cabin in Fort Peck, MT.
Calmer was born December 11, 1920 in Antelope, MT the son of Nels and Dorothae (Christiansen) Ersness. He grew up and attended schools in Plentywood, MT, graduating from Plentywood High School.Calmer enlisted with the United States Army on February 17, 1946 and served during WWII. He was stationed in the Philippines until captured by Japan and was a POW in Japan for 3 1/2 years. He was also a survivor of the Batan Death March. He was discharged February of 1949 but was recalled to serve in the Korean War. He was discharged May of 1953 and was very proud of his military service.
Calmer married Irene (Georga) Domonoske on December 29, 1950 in Plentywood, MT. They made their home in Plentywood and then moved to Wolf Point in 1954. They raised three sons, Cal, Corwin, and John. Calmer worked at the Roosevelt County Court House as a District Court Reporter for 44 years, serving Eastern Montana.Calmer was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, American Legion, VFW, Shrine club, Masonic lodge #121 (50 year member), Eastern Star (50 year member), 100 club, Boy Scout leader, Toastmasters, and Elks Club.Calmer enjoyed working on his Fort Peck cabin, hunting, fishing and socializing with friends.
Calmer is survived by his wife, Georga of Wolf Point; his sons, Cal Ersness, Jr. of Brevard, NC, Corwin K Ersness of Wolf Point, and John N Ersness of Minot, ND; his granddaughter, Jill Ersness of Ashville, NC; and great-grandchildren, Logan and Colby Scott of Ashville, NC.
