Calvin George Davis, 68, died Tuesday, August 26, 2003 at Francis Mahon Deaconess Hospital in Glasgow of cancer.
He was born March 28, 1935 at Ogema, MN to Everett J. and Katherine (Howard) Davis. As a baby, he moved back to the Peerless community where he attended country school and then lived with an aunt and uncle and attended Peerless High School. Calvin always had fond memories of growing up on the ranch south of Peerless and telling stories of helping trail the McLeod bucking horses from Peerless to Wolf Point for the Wild Horse Stampede, until 1950 and 1951, the final year, they hauled the horses to Wolf Point. In 1951, the family moved south of Wolf Point. Calvin worked for neighbors as a youth. From March of 1956-59, Calvin served in the U.S. Army. After returning home, he worked for Art Terpe moving dirt on the north side of Wolf Point where the hospital now stands. Next he worked for Walt Finkbiener at Westland Oil. On July 15, 1961, he married Margaret Darlene Huso. Calvin worked for several grain elevators in the area, Peavey, Equity, and Brockton Farmers Elevator. In 1970, Calvin decided to pursue a career in farming and ranching, which he continued until his death. Calvin was appointed to the Roosevelt County Conservation Board in 1992.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Darlene of the family farm; two sons, Kenneth (Lora) Davis and James (Susan) Davis, both of Wolf Point. He is also survived by two grandsons, Timothy and Trevor Davis; three brothers, Larry (Jenice) Davis of Wolf Point, Alvie (Sue) Davis of De Borgia, Walter (Dee) Davis of Worden; and one sister, Marianne (Pete) Marottek of Poplar, and several nieces and nephews, and aunts and uncles.
