Interment: will follow in the Poplar City Cemetery
Calvin William Red Thunder, Sr. was called home on February 13, 2004, after a brave and courageous battle with cancer. He was born to Seth and Ione (LaPlant) Red Thunder on June 7, 1949, in Poplar, MT.
He was raised in the Chelsea area and was a 1967 graduate of Poplar High School. Calvin married Sharon Youpee on December 12, 1967, in Wolf Point. They lived in Brockton and Poplar, eventually making their home in Poplar. Together they had three children. He enjoyed life but most of all he enjoyed his grandchildren. His hobbies were hunting, fishing, camping, and working on and restoring old FORD trucks. He also worked on and researched endlessly on the computer. Calvins career and accomplishments string out in Law Enforcement for over twenty years, specifically the corrections field for the past nine years. His strive to help the youth with more empathetic and holistic philosophies was proven through his dedication and continuous commitment for the betterment of our combined law enforcement services and cultural sensitivity. He believed in the success of individuals and always could see prospect and hope where most could not. He had a gift many people would like to have but dont have the courage and patience to claimwith that we can only hold up to the confidence and prospect he saw in us.
He was preceded in passing by his parents and his brothers James, Leroy, John Sr. and Darrell.
He is survived by his wife and his children Calvin, Jr., Denise and Angeline (Mike), adopted sons Asad (Lisa) and Jared, granddaughters JenEtte and Shanel, grandsons Tommy, Brandon, Seth, Shane, Gabriel, and Ahmed, all of Poplar, his sisters Mary Ann Richardson of Williston, ND, Olivia Buckles of Spokane, WA, Delores Kirn of Billings, Florine Williams of Grand Junction, CO, Karla Ahlstrand and Margaret Hamilton of Poplar, his adopted brothers Tommy Christian of Poplar, Earl Bull Head of Mobridge, SD, Larry Reinlasoder of Billings, and Jerome Main of Harlem, adopted uncle Malcom Mick Smith of poplar, father-in-law Jim Youpee and a special niece Sheryl Berger, along with several relatives too numerous to mention.
