Carl Hirsch, age 93, of Miles City, MT passed away in Miles City on September 10, 2005.
Carl was born on June 16, 1912 in Java, South Dakota to Charley and Margaretha (Schlaht) Hirsch. Carl moved to Montana when he was one year old with his folks to the farm. They homesteaded the land out by Rock Springs where he has farmed all of his life. In 1936,Hertha Christina Walther came to work at the Charley Hirsch place and it was at the family farm, that Carl met his soon to be wife. Carl and Hertha were married on the farm on March 12, 1938. They continued to live out there, taking care of Carls parents and the farm. His parents moved to town in the 40s, and Carl and Hertha stayed on at the farm. They raised five children on the farm, one boy and four girls all of whom were born in Miles city at Abbies Hospital. They paid the bill by hauling coal to the hospital- about three or four tons per child! Carl was always a hardworking, honorable, hone'st man. With an incredible work ethic that he passed on throughout his children and grandchildren. He knew how to put in a hard days work, and still had time for his family at the end of the day. He spent his life loving his family and the farm and working hard for the both of them.
Carl is survived by his loving wife and friend of 67 years, Hertha of Miles City, MT, four children; Alvin (Barbara) Hirsch of Rock Springs, MT, Irene (Vern) Johnson of Bozeman, MT, Loretta (Jim) Gaughan of DeRio, TX, Linda (Vern) McCants of Billings, MT, brother Jacob Hirsch of Miles City, ten grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Virginia McCants, sister Annie Jenke, brother John Hirsch and a grandson Patrick Hirsch.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 13, 2005 with the family to receive friends from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the Chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 14, 2005 at 11:00am at the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will follow at the Custer County Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Homestead Assisted Living. Condolences may be sent to the family by visitingwww.stevensonandsons.com.
