Carl Robert Thornock, age 71, of Broadus, lost his last long battle with cancer at his home, surrounded by his loving family, February 6, 2007.
Carl was the youngest of 6 children born on June 9th, 1935 to Fern and Cecil Thornock in Bloomington, Id, and was raised as a member of the LDS Church. Carl attended school grades 1-8 in Bloomington and 9-12 at Fielding High School in Paris, ID. He joined the United States Army in February, 1955 and married Bonnie Martin in March 1955 in Rigby, Idaho. He was stationed in Korea for 13 months, then in Fort Hood, TX until he was discharged from the army. They had four children, twin girls, Lorraine and Laurie, Sherry and Chad
Carl married Judy Traub-Hulford on December 3, 1984 in Elko, Nevada. They lived in Helena, Dickinson and Butte before moving to Nye, MT in 1986 where he worked as an underground miner at Stillwater Mining Co. He retired in 1999 and they moved to Broadus. Carl worked part-time at the Powder River Manor in Broadus in the maintenance department but his love for mining drew him back underground until January 2006.
Carl truly enjoyed working underground, which he did for a total of 45 years. His favorite pastimes were reading (especially history) and working with Judy at their ceramic shop.
Carl is survived by his wife Judy Thornock; Daughters, Laurie Eldridge of Pocatello, ID, and Sherry Bushong (Edward Dito Snider) of Rigby, ID; Brother, Leroy Thornock (Shirley) of Pocatello, ID; Sister, Irene Carlin (Johnny) of Bloomington, ID; Stepchildren, Cindy Parrish (Scott) of Broadus, Marty Hulford (Diane) of Elko, NV, Teri Hulford (Bill Knudson) of North Bend, OR; 13 Grandchildren, 12 Great-Grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Carl is preceded in death by his parents, Fern and Cecil Thornock; Bonnie Martin Thornock; Sisters, Elsie Martin, Priscilla Thornock and Mary Cozia; Daughter, Lorraine Welch; Son, Chad Thornock; Stepson, Joe Hulford; Grandsons, Tony Eldridge, Craig Welch, and John Carl Thornock.
Carl will truly be missed by all who knew him.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home in Broadus, MT. Interment will follow at a later date in the Valley View Cemetery in Broadus, MT. Should friends wish to send condolences you may visit www.stevensonandsons.com
