In Memory Of

Chad Hirsch, age 50, of Miles City

August 6, 1971 – October 16, 2021

Chad Allan Hirsch, age 50, passed away October 16th, 2021, in Billings, MT. Chad had been battling Covid-19 and due to complications, lost his battle surrounded by family.

On August 6th, 1971, Chad was born in Miles City to Leroy and Pearl (Milender) Hirsch. Joining his older twin brothers, Shane and Shawn. Chad was named after his grandma Ellen Hirsch. Chads middle name was quickly learned due to his mother/grandma Pearl always yelling “Chad Allan” multiple times a day because Chad had a way of always being up to something mischievous.

Chad grew up on the family farm and attended school at Rock Springs Country School until 1986, when his parents decided to move into town so the boys could attend Custer County District High School. Chad played football and wrestled for the Cowboys, graduating in 1990.

Chad has three beautiful children that really were his pride and joy.

On April 23rd, 1992, Chad and Darcy Metzenberg welcomed the oldest and first daughter Brittany Diane Metzenberg Hirsch. Chad immediately fell in love with his baby girl and had a bond that couldn’t be broken. They spent many hours on a tractor or combine listening to strawberry wine on repeat per Brittany’s request.

Chad then met Kerry Kipf in 1994 and later married in February of 1997. Chad and Kerry had two beautiful children together. A beautiful baby girl, Taeler Ann Hirsch on March 5th, 1997. Taeler got her big heart and love for children from Chad. He was always so proud of her and the love she has for her boys.

Chad loved his two daughters very much but prayed for a boy. Chad’s prayers were answered (as Chad would say) when a little baby boy, Brody Jake Hirsch was born on July 3rd, 1998. According to Brody it is well known that he instantly became the favorite.

Chad worked on the family farm and in high school started welding for Transco for many years where he became an experienced welder. He later made the decision to join BNSF railroad as a train conductor where he worked for 10 plus years. Chad made numerous lifelong friends during his time with BNSF and made it a point to make each trip something memorable.

Chad had many passions. He was a champion arm wrestler in his younger days, he was an experienced collector (if anyone is in need of a yellow bus…We have two!), but most of all Chad loved teaching kids how to hunt, fish, curse, and really appreciate the simpler things life had to offer. He loved nothing more but to be at the lake in the summers and on the mountain in the winter. He also was best at making everyone laugh, with one of the biggest hearts around Chad really made sure everyone and anyone felt like family. He was always there to help anyone in need without being asked and they always had a great story by the end.

Chad had two names he carried proudly: Dad and Papa Chad. He took in and loved every kid that walked through his door and made sure to teach them the Hirsch ways. He made sure that every adoptive kid had their own special nickname, but that was because there were so many kids, he couldn’t actually remember all their names.

We have comfort knowing that Chad was met by his parents with wide open arms.

Chad was proceeded in death by his parents Leroy and Pearl Hirsch. Numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Chad is survived by his brothers Shane (Gretchen, Amber, McKenzie, Riley) Hirsch, Shawn (Lora, Dylan, Austin) Hirsch; children Brittany Hirsch, Taeler Hirsch (KC Johnson) and Brody Hirsch; Grandkids Abel and Isaiah; and all his adoptive children he had gained through his children’s friendships throughout the years.

    Dear Brittany, Taylor, and Brody.
Your dad and I so many great adventures, and our friendship is one of my longest friendship I’ve had in my life. We never shared a dull moment and always enjoyed life to the fullest.
He was so proud of you kids, his voice and face would light up when he spoke of you all and he spoke of you all very often. When we talked the last time it he was excited to be where he was and getting his health back so he could enjoy his grandkids. My heart breaks for them because they will miss such a loving and caring man. Chad was a never a stranger to anyone, he was always there for me whenever I need to talk. Chad and I shared many of the same interests and hobbies. Even in our younger years starting with snowmobiles to BMX bikes we loved being wild and crazy and pushing safety to the limits and beyond. I will truly miss my buddy.

Chad was one of a kind. He was a kind hearted man with so much love for his family. I smile when I hear this song because it is what reminds me of his zest for life. Hugs to all of you!

    “Here For A Good Time”

I’m not gonna lay around and whine and moan
‘Cause somebody done done me wrong
Don’t think for a minute that I’m gonna sit around
And sing some old sad song
    I believe it’s half-full not a half-empty glass
Every day I wake up knowing it could be my last
    I ain’t here for a long time
I’m here for a good time
    So bring on the sunshine
To hell with the red wine
    Pour me some moon shine
    When I’m gone
    Put it in stone
    “He left nothing behind”
    I ain’t here for a long time
I’m here for a good time
