Charles Arthur C.W. Wilcox passed away peacefully at his home in Miles City on Friday March 4, 2011.

The last 16 months were a test for C.W. but it was a battle that he took head on, smiling and laughing through. He continued to enjoy his friends and family and even had one last show on the radio.

Charles was born October 3, 1942 in Louisville, Kentucky. He grew up in Kansas City, Kansas where he graduated high school before entering the U.S. Air Force in 1960. C.W. made his way to Eastern Montana when the Air Force assigned him to the Radar Base just west of Miles City. From that point on Miles City was homeits where he loved to be, its where he was meant to be. Miles City and Eastern Montana were where C.W. raised his family, where he worked in the radio and television world for almost 40 years and of course, where he made so many friends. He was a long time member of Sacred Heart Parish and the Knights of Columbus.C.W. enjoyed spending his time around the sports worldhe was very proud of the fact that he had covered sports in Miles City and Eastern Montana on the radio, newspaper and television over the past 40 years. He always said that was his Triple Play. He loved to be around friends and family whether it was at the game, at the towns big functions or if it was just hanging out at home with his grandkids.

This past year Grandpa C.W. spent a lot of time with his girls Carissa and Allison. He was able to watch Tyler play baseball last summer. He took in Carissas softball games and was always willing to give his little Ali a ride in his wheelchair. Grandpa will be missed for sure.

Charles is survived by his son Kevin (Kelly) Wilcox of Miles City; daughter Amanda (Benny) Wilcox of Albany, Oregon; sisters Cheryl Keene of Olympia, Washington and Serene Stults of Galena, Missouri; 6 grandchildren, Carissa, Allison, Tyler, Benjamin, Lydia and Carlos.

Dad we love you and miss you already but we know that they are enjoying your play-by-play upstairs!!!

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Badlands Bowl.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday March 9, 2011 at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday March 10, 2011 at 11:00am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rite of Committal following in Eastern Montana Veterans Cemetery with full military honors provided by VFW Post 1579.

I googled Charlie’s name and was so happy when I saw this beautiful picture of him pop up, but very sad when I read that he had passed away. We spent a lot of time with our Wilcox cousins and I often wonder where everyone is. I hope that Cheryl and Serene are doing well and I really miss everybody.

Chuck came to work at K-BUG radio in Spfd, Mo in the 1970s. This is where we became friends. I knew his Bro. Bob at KTTS (all radio folks in the Ozarks know each other). Chuck and Mike Crowder and I used to go to KICK radio at midnight and watch Bob Brite (the over-night jock) do his show – he was better than Robin Williams and faster than a ‘speeding bullet’/ Superman. W had such fun – never cost us a dime. Chuck even went with me to my Grandmother’s house where we sat in the backyard and ate toasted cheese sandwiches and drank frosty cold Kool-Ade. One afternoon, we all drove to the ‘Coon Ridge Cafe’ and had hot pie and cokes. This was his mother’s business. I recall he wallpapered his bathroom in his apt. with the colored funny papers rom the Sunday edition . Any time the conversaton lagged, Chuck was talking about how much he loved Montana. I’d love to talk to him again. Bob was a wild-man but Chuck was very mellow. I hope they are both in Heaven together. – their pal, Audrey
