Interment: will follow at the Sanchez Family Plot, ten miles east of Lame Deer
Charles Chuck Sanchez (Cheyenne name Meskoe), 76 of Lame Deer Mont. left to journey to the next camp on June 8, 2009 after a prolonged illness.
Chuck was born November 4, 1932 to Juan and Consuelo Torres Sanchez in Redlands California.Chuck is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Marie Elena Brady. They were united in marriage on December 30th,1961. They were blessed with 8 children: Chuck (Patricia) Sanchez, Jr. of California, Darryl (Shawna) Sanchez of Lame Deer, Greg (Stephanie) Sanchez of South Dakota, John (Edwina) Sanchez of Lame Deer, Tony Sanchez of Lame Deer, Connie (Matthew) Gingrich of Orrstown P.A. and Charlette Sanchez of Lame Deer. Chuck is also survived by his 26 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
His early years were spent growing up in Los Angeles California, and in the 1940s he was part of the Pachucos that were dedicated to protecting Hispanic communities and especially women from marauding sailors and soldiers from the U.S. military. In the 1960s he was an avid Welter Weight Amateur Boxer and also sang Mexican Folk Songs with his guitar on the radio every morning in L.A.After marrying the love of his life, Chuck and Marie would later leave the city and moved to Lame Deer in 1968 where they made their home. Believing in protecting family and community, Chuck also participated in the Wounded Knee occupation in 1973.Throughout his life Chuck held various types of employment that included construction work, being a truck driver, a skills truck dispatcher for Goodwill Industries, a jackhammer and forklift operator, scaffolding lead man and foreman.
Chuck being a remarkable man spoke several languages: Spanish, English and Cheyenne. His hobbies and activities included being an Amateur Boxer, training at Main Street Gym Los Angeles, California, singing Mexican Folk Songs at the El Sombero Cafe and on the radio. He could even play the guitar left handed and upside down. Chuck was and is a great man. His friends and loved one’s will remember him forever. He succeeded in most everything in life. He has a great family and friends that will miss him dearly.
