Charles Sonny Green, age 76, of Miles City passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2006 at his home in Miles City.

Sonny was born in Miles City, Montana on November 19, 1929, the son of Loy and Evelyn (Beckman) Green. He attended Loesch School near Volborg then went to high school at Custer County District High School in Miles City. After high school, Sonny ranched and worked as an apprentice Blacksmith on the Milwaukee shops in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was drafted into the United States Army in September of 1951. Sonny married Jeanne Hough on February 24, 1952 in Miles City, Montana. Two weeks later, Sonny left for a 14 month tour in Korea as a combat engineer. Sonny was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant First Class in June of 1953. Following his discharge, he returned to the ranch where Rob was born in 1954. Sonny was part of LJ Green and Sons Corporation. Two more children were born, Mary Peggy in 1956 and Rick in 1958 in Miles City when Sonny was taking his G.I. training in mechanics at Boutelles. They returned to the ranch when it was incorporated in 1958. The family stayed on the ranch until the corporation was dissolved in 1989. Sonny and Jeanne moved south of Miles City where they bought a country home and lived there until 2005. Due to his health, they moved into Miles City.

Sonny liked collecting and shooting guns, playing cribbage, and woodworking. He could fix anything that could be fixed and some things that couldnt. Sonny was a hard worker. He cherished the time spent with family and friends. Sonny was a member of the Gideons, Friends of the NRA, Broadus Rifle Club and Grace Bible Church.

Sonny is survived by his wife, Jeanne Green of Miles City, MT; a daughter, Mary Peggy (Ron) Baker of Kenmore, WA; two sons: Robert (Marla) Green of Belgrade, MT; and Rev. Rick (Karen) Green of Fairview, MT; two sisters: Delores (Cecil) Kolka of Volborg, MT; and Betty Pluhar of Miles City, MT; two brothers: Clifford (Lyla) Green of Miles City, MT; and Melvin (Helen) Green of Cohagen, MT; a sister-in-law, Beverly Green of Volborg, MT; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Harold, Gary and a sister Marion, and a daughter-in-law Carol Green.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 19, 2006 followed by a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 20, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Grace Bible Church in Miles City. Interment will follow in the family lot of the Custer County Cemetery in Miles City with full military honors provided by VFW Post #1579. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Grace Bible Church, The Gideons, American Lung Association, Stacy Memorial Hall or to the charity of one's choice.
