Charles William Shumway, age 70, of Miles City passed away on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at the Holy Rosary Extended Care.
Charles was born on August 22, 1939 in Yakima, Washington, the eldest son of George & Pearl Shumway. They moved to Wolf Point, Montana when Charles was two. He served in the United States Navy from October of 1957 to October of 1961. He married Joyce Wagner on May 7, 1966 in Wolf Point, Montana. He worked for US West for 30 years before retiring in 1999. Charles enjoyed woodworking and watching old movies.
Charles is survived by his wife, Joyce Shumway of Miles City, MT; two children: Vanessa (Scott) Zeitner of Miles City, MT; and Christopher (Verona) Shumway of Kingsland, GA; his mother, Pearl Shumway of Miles City, MT; brothers: Bob (Linda) Shumway of Wolf Point, MT; Bill (Rhonda) Shumway of Miles City, MT; Scott (Anna) Shumway of Jacksonville, FL; Jeff (Yvonne) Shumway of Denver, CO; sisters: Sharon Atkins of Miles City, MT; Donna (Ken) Kellum of Miles City, MT; Lacy (Robert) Cortez of Fort Worth, TX; Ann (Marty) Hagemeister of Miles City, MT; Joy (Joe) Welch of Shepherd, MT; and nieces and nephews; three grandchildren: Nicole Steinert of Miles City, MT; Behling Shumway and Cloah Shumway of Kingsland, GA.
He was preceded on death by his father, George Shumway; a brother, George (Sonny) Shumway, and a brother, Lloyd Shumway.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will follow in the Eastern Montana State Veterans Cemetery with full military honors provided by VFW Post #1579. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Miles City is in charge of the arrangement. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
