Interment: will follow in the Eastern Montana State Veteran Cemetery with full military honors
Charles William Woodruff, age 81, died Sunday, December 14, 2003 in Yacolt, Washington.
Mr. Woodruff was born February 25, 1922, in Knowlton, Montana, attended high school in Miles City, Montana and graduated from Chaffey College in Ontario, California, with an Associate in Arts degree.
He was a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. Serving in the 768th Bombardment Squadron, he was a navigator and radar operator flying missions in the Asia Pacific Theater of operations. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying missions in the Asia Pacific Theater of operations. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Purple Heart, and the Air Medal with two clusters. After the war, Charles went back to Miles City where he managed an appliance and furniture store. In 1956 he moved to California and worked as a Quality Control Supervisor for General Dynamics and then Perking Elmer. He and his wife, Louise, retired at Amboy in 1985. Charles enjoyed transplanting trees, looking after cattle, and raising a garden on his property. He was an avid reader of current events and history.
Survivors include two daughters, Maureen McCracken of Santa Cruz, CA, and Kirtlye Woodruff of Brithish Columbia, Canada; two sisters, Doris Winslow of Miles City, MT, and Audrey Zuroff of Glendive, MT; and two grandsons.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Labre Indian School in Ashland, Montana in care of Maureen McCracken.
