Chase Stanley Bott, age 30, of Miles City passed away on October 28, 2021.
Chase was born in Billings, Montana on June 13, 1991 to Jim and Geneal Bott. They lived in Belfry, Montana until Dad got a job in Miles City in 1994. He attended Highland Park Elementary School and then moved to the farm at Kinsey in 2000. He attended school to the 8th grade in Kinsey. Chase graduated from Custer County District High School in 2009. Following graduation, he tried his hand at college but was drawn to the oilfields with his friends. He then worked for Burlington Northern Railroad as a conductor and engineer. Times he was furloughed from the railroad he worked out at Kinsey for his brother Cade and Art Viall.
Chase had a big kind heart. He loved spending time with his friends and family. He loved basketball, riding his jet skis, playing video games, camping and working on his pickup. He also enjoyed snowboarding and working out. He loved going to the lake with his friends and losing cell phones and who knows what else in the lake. Animals loved him, he had some special connection, we are sure it was his gentle manner. He could lay on his steers, had fun with his pigs, run under papa’s horses and never got kicked, even though he was told many times this would happen. He was good with leather and made several items in 4-H. Just like both his brothers, he hated our sheep.
From the time Chase was a toddler, he was always the one in our family that would make us burst out laughing. His brothers could be mad at him one minute and the next thing we knew Chase would do something silly and we were all laughing again. His Dad was told that if he keeps laughing at everything he does, Chase would always think he was funny. Well, he was funny, sometimes obnoxiously.
When still living in Miles City, under a babysitter’s care, we told her they could order pizza. They were playing outside, Chase got hungry, went into the house and called 911, only number he knew for pizza!!
Chase was a free spirit from the day he was born and that spirit just grew and grew. He has such a huge giving heart, loving soul, gentle, funny, and emotional. He called two special girls, Madison and Jaidynn his own even before they were born and provided for them for the last eight years. He is their dad, even though not biologically. He loved them so.
Chase loved his family; Chase loved his friends there is no doubt. Chase fought something inside himself that he could not always win the battle with. He had help, and he knew he was loved. We talked about depression and suicide, many times, he would say, I can take care of this mama, I’m okay. He could not ever see how special he was. Mental health is real, important, and we all need to be open about it; men and women. As Clay said, Jesus died for us to save us, Jesus has Chase wrapped in all his unending love now.
Chase was preceded in death by his cousins, Cleve Dawe and Landon McCabe. He is survived by his parents, Jim and Geneal; brothers: Clay (Brianne) of Great Falls, and Cade (Hannah) of Miles City, Jaidynn and Madison of Miles City, fiance’ Shelby Burman and unborn daughter Taylee Kay of Miles City, a nephew Corbin, niece Nora; grandparents: Bob and Enid Krauth of Wolf Point, Willie and Dorothy Bott, Miles City, formerly of Rosebud; aunts and uncles: Jim & Rebecca McCabe of Ekalaka, Kevin and Robertta Dawe of Big Timber, Wade and Laura Krauth (God Parents) of Wolf Point, Ardis Bott and Cheri Colstad of Hardin; uncle Bob Bott of Havre, MT; cousins: Sarah (Guy) Stickney, Megan (Justin) Arnold, Matt McCabe, Gavin (Chasity) Krauth, Erin Krauth, Daniel Bott, Alicia (Richard) Erye.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 1, 2021 at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City with family receiving friends from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Miles City. Again, my thoughts are with you all.

Brenna McIntyre says
My heart is broken over the loss of Chase. Every other memory of my childhood attending Kinsey school includes Chase. Going to such a small school for so many grades, we really got to know the other kids in our class well and become good friends. I got to see what a kind, generous and sensitive person Chase was. He had the best sense of humor, I think it was always his goal to entertain our whole classroom and make everyone laugh. Sometimes even our teachers couldn’t help but laugh, even if he was in trouble, which I know only encouraged him further. He is the only person I know who has actually written “Gullible” on the ceiling, and yes even our teacher had to laugh at that one. Chase made going to school fun, but sadly after the 8th grade I didn’t have any classes with him through high school. I will always cherish the memories of growing up with him. Jim, Geneal, Clay and Cade, you have my deepest sympathy. Chase was a very special person and I am so sorry for your loss, you are in my heart during this difficult time.

My fondest memories of Chase include his big cheesy grin & an infectious laugh that filled the room. He always knew how to make the mundane fun & keep you on your toes. I admired his ability to fully enjoy each moment & keep a smile on everyone’s face. He will be greatly missed. While we had lost touch over the years I’m certain his spontaneity, humor & genuine nature never faltered.
My heart goes out to those closest to him as I’m sure no amount of kind words provide an ounce of healing, but may provide an ounce of hope in progress towards our ability to speak openly about our struggles & mental health.
