In Memory Of

Cherri Potts, age 72, of Forsyth

April 3, 1948 – November 4, 2020

Cherri Lynn Potts died Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at Rosebud
Health Care Center in Forsyth, Montana.  She was surrounded by family
including her husband of 50 years, David and her pastor.

Cherri was born April 3, 1948 to Owen and LaVerne Johnson in Forsyth,
Montana, she was the oldest of 5 girls.  She grew up in the Forsyth area
and attended school there until she graduated from Forsyth High School,
in 1966.  She met and married David Potts in 1970 and they raised 3
children together.   They lived and worked on ranches in Eastern
Montana, until 1988, when they purchased the ranch on Little Porcupine
Creek that was their home for the next 25 years.  In 2013, after selling
the ranch, they “downsized” and moved to “town”.  They traveled
extensively after selling the ranch, including a cruise through the
Panama Canal and a trip to Alaska.

Cherri worked for Forsyth Public Schools as a bus driver and lunchroom
attendant.  She was a 4-H leader and volunteered her time at the Rosebud
County extension office.

Cherri had a large circle of friends who she enjoyed spending time with,
including lunches and card party’s.  She was active in her church and
her faith was important to her.

Cherri was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and
sister.  Cherri and David shared their home with extended family for
holiday celebrations and family reunions and everyone was always welcome.

Cherri was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents. She is
survived by her husband, David Potts; her 3 children, Suzanne Cooper,
Shelley (David) Rickett and Matthew (Toni) Potts; 11 grandchildren; 10
great grandchildren; her 4 sisters, Penni (John) Cook, Dianna Nees,

Patricia (Bill) Rose, Susan (Harlan) Morgan; numerous nieces and nephews
and more than a few friends who became family.

  38. Linda LaGree Burch says

    November 10, 2020 at 7:48 am

My condolences to David and family for the loss of Cheri. Cherri must have added an r in spelling her first name since we grew up together…sharing things of youth…smoking punk wood for the first time while our families continued holiday festivities inside. We used to spend time together up at the Little Porcupine while her grandpa Standish and Owen (dad) did some ranch work..when Standish spat his chew out the front window of the station wagon and we caught it through the back window (all roll down). We really caught it when we cleaned Standish’s coffeepot..so many memories of youth and my lessons of country life. We drifted apart over these past 55 years as often happens but our connection still a presence. Cherri’s family welcomed me to visit her at home in September several times…let me know I could come to the hospital. Cherri’s legacy of love, strength, resilience, generosity, humor, deep faith clear to me as I sat with David and family in the hospital. She lives on through them. Thank you for being part of my life Cherri Johnson Potts.
