Alex Nayes, age 72, of Forsyth, passed away at his home on April 4, 2004.
Alex was born the son of Chet and Mildred Sug(Powers)Nayes on August 11, 1931 in Sheridan, Wyoming. With his family he moved to Wyola, Montana when he was seven years old. Alex was educated in Wyola and graduated from Lodge Grass in 1950. He attended Rocky Mountain College and played football for the Battlin Bears, while being coached under Herb Kindt. Due to his fathers illness, Alex returned to the family ranch in Wyola. On Aug 9, 1967 Alex married Paula Farman in Buffalo, Wyoming. Together they made their home on the ranch until his semi-retirement in 1993 when they moved to Forsyth. While in Forsyth, Alex continued to remain active with the ranch by helping his son. Alex served as a Bighorn County Commissioner from 1967-1974. He was also very involved in the development and operation of the Bozeman Trail Irrigation Ditch Corp. in Bighorn County. Alex loved being with his family, whom he deeply adored. He liked the ranch life and being outside with his animals. He enjoyed playing cards with his grandchildren and also playing golf at the Country Club.
Alex is survived by his beloved wife, Paula, his son Raymond McCausland ofWyola, MT, foster son Brent Brooks of Lodge Grass, MT, his daughters; Amy Fred and her husband Rick of Maple Valley, WA, AprilNayes of Port Clinton, OH, Dana Pace and her husband Bob of Sunburst, MT, his grandchildren; Vance Raymond, Chelsea and BenMcCausland, Rostyn andRaynee Pace, step-grandson Ricky Fred, his foster grandson, Brent Brooks, his niece and nephews; Kim Brown, Darwin Curry and Jeff Ferguson, his cat of twenty years, Pookie and his sisters; Barbara Curry and Mary Ann Ferguson both from Helena, MT.
Alex was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held on Thursday April 8, 2004 from 1:00PM to 4:00PM in the Chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Forsyth. The family will receive their family and friends at 4:00PM to 7:00PM in the Chapel. Condolences can be sent to www.stevensonsandsons.com . Memorials can be made to the Bighorn County Museum.
