Christine Lorraine (Schmidt) Baggott age 95 of Miles City passed away on Wednesday December eighth 2004.
Christine was born on a farm near Ashley, North Dakota June 27, 1909 to John and Rosina (Maertz) Schmidt. Christines family moved to the Marsh-Mildred area June of 1927. Christine went to grade school at the Buckley school in that area. She attended high school at Broadus and graduated from there having worked for her room and board at Eugene and Dora Hanks. August 22nd of 1931 Christine began nurses training at the Presentation School of Nursing at the Holy Rosary Hospital under the Nursing Director, Sister Williams. Christine graduated in 1934 and was on the private duty register. Her first case was the morning she came home from taking her state boards of nursing in Helena, Montana.
Christine met Curly Baggott in the Broadus area and they were married on September 31, 1935 in the First Lutheran church in Miles City. They lived on a ranch 17 miles south of Broadus. Christine continued doing private duty nursing in various area hospitals. In 1936, due to the drought conditions, Christine and Curly left the ranch and moved to Miles City and in 1938 the Baggotts moved to Alaska. Christine worked as a nurse and and Curly worked as a trammer in the Independence Gold Mine. In the fall of 1940 the Baggotts returned to their Broadus Ranch and continued ranching. On January 29, 1944, their daughter Jodell was born. In November of 1944 the Baggotts sold their Broadus ranch and purchased the Dan Strobel ranch on Cabin Creek. She also nursed for several years at the Prairie County Hospital in Terry. They sold the Cabin Creek ranch in 1973 and moved to Miles City. Christine worked full time at the Friendship Villa until age 74.
The Baggotts enjoyed traveling, bowling, swimming and many other activities. Curly preceded Christine in death in 1988. Christine was an active member in the Range Riders Rep, Miles City Home Extension Club, First Lutheran Church, Retired Services Volunteer Person and the Montana State Nurses Association.
Christine is survived by her daughter Jodell Baggott of Laurel, MT ; sisters: Ann Becker of Billings MT, Alma (Dale) Zadow of Dallas, TX, Amelia Hanlan of Wailuku, HI, One brother Ervin Schmidt of Billings, MT; a sister-in-law, Leah Schmidt of San Mateo, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews. Christine was preceded in death by a sister Pauline Schmidt, brothers Gottlieb R. Schmidt, Ted Schmidt, Otto Schmidt, and Reinhold Schmidt.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2004 at 6:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will be held at a later date.
