Clarence Nelsen

Memorial Service: 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 8, 2006 at St. John Lutheran Church in Poplar

Inurnment: will follow at Poplar City Cemetery

Clarence (Casey) Nelsen, age 91, of Poplar, MT passed away of natural causes on August 4, 2006 at Poplar Community Hospital.

Clarence F. Nelsen was born October 19, 1914 to Carl and Marie (Flensborg) Nelsen in McCabe, MT. He attended high school in Froid, MT. Casey served the U.S. Army from May 26, 1942 until his honorable discharge on November 2, 1945. He was an airplane mechanic during World War II repairing battle damaged planes in England. Upon his discharge he returned to Poplar and worked various jobs including: working at his fathers tractor implement company, delivery truck driver, school bus driver, custodian at Poplar public schools and caretaker of the Clayton-Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Poplar (he even assisted with some funerals).

Clarence spent the last years of his life at the Poplar Community Nursing Home where he loved to play bingo. He enjoyed the nursing home staff and anyone who stopped by to visit. He had a special place in his heart for Barb and Louis Miros.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Joyce, brothers, Hans and Carl, a step-son, Randy Riley and son-in-law, Stanley Wang.Clarence is survived by a sister, Helen Johnson of Wolf Point; three sons, Mark (Jean) Nelsen of Milan, IL, Terry (Eileen) Nelsen of Washington, IL, Jeff (Julie) Nelsen of Havre, MT; a daughter, Kayleen Thinglestad of Minot, ND; four step-sons, Monte (Linda) Riley of Mt. Zion, IL, Larry (Margeret) Riley of Malden, MO, Lanny (Flo) Riley of Poplar and Harlan (Jackie) Riediger of Poplar; four step-daughters, Barbara Wang of Fertile, MN, Karen (Claude) Adamson of Glendive, MT, Bonnie Bechtel of Poplar and Paulette (Clete) Leinen of Poplar; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Riley of Worden, MT; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 8, 2006 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Poplar. Inurnment will follow in Poplar City Cemetery.Memorial can be made to the Poplar Community Nursing Home.
