December 24, 1949 – February 8, 2016

Clark W Irion, 66, passed away in Billings, MT on February 8th, 2016 in his home after a courageous fight with cancer. The son of Wayne and Mary Ann Irion, Clark was born on Christmas Eve, 1949. Clark was born and raised in Miles City where he graduated from High School in 1969. He joined the Army shortly after in and went to Fort Leonard Wood, MO. As a combat engineer he served in one tour in Vietnam during 1970 and 1971. During his tours he received a Bronze Star. He continued his service in the National Guard before retiring in 1993. Clark and Lori married in 1974 in Miles City. While living in Miles City both Clark and Lori worked at various restaurants, including the Airport Inn. After Divorcing in 1982, Clark began working at Reynolds Warehouse. During his tenure at Reynold’s, he worked his way up to Assistant Store Manager. In 2007 Clark moved to Billings so that he could be closer to his grandchildren, Ely and Bella Kraft, and remarried Lori after having been divorced for 27 years. During his time in Billings he worked for Evergreen IGA.

Clark shared his love of the outdoors with his friends and family during many camping and fishing trips. One of his favorite places to escape was to 12 Mile Dam east of Miles City where he could be found relaxing with his camper and enjoying some fishing. He also thoroughly enjoyed card games, many of which were played at family get-togethers that lasted into the evenings. Always in a jovial spirit, Clark enjoyed practical jokes and making others smile and laugh with his silly pranks. Even through his treatments he remained in good spirits and always made those around him laugh.

Clark is survived by his wife Lori of Billings, MT, daughter and sons, Lacey and her husband, Abel Gonzales of Billings, MT, Ben and his significant other, Hannah Parsons of Billings, MT, and Vince of Billings; his siblings Helen of Billings, MT, Karen (Bob) of Miles City, MT, Tim (Debbie) of Miles City, MT, Barbara (Ron) of Miles City, MT and Mary (Grant) of Biddle, MT. I can only smile when I think about working for Clark at Reynold’s. He taught the way customers ought to be treated, was fair and always fun. My favorited memory (that can be published publicly) was him teaching how to make Snickers in your mouth by strategically combining caramels, chocolates and dry roasted peanuts from the bulk food bins.

Such a fun loving and happy person, taken from us much too soon. Clark was a classmate and a person I admired greatly. The news of his passing makes me think of the Pink Floyd song “Shine On You Crazy Diamond”.

  37. Gwen Gamrath Gunther says

    February 11, 2016 at 11:03 am

Scott’s comment on making Snickers in your mouth, brought back funny memories of Clark and our times together at Reynolds. He was always up to something, with a mischievous grin giving him away. My favorite moments were the early Saturday mornings when he would organize breakfast for everyone working in the store, he’d pay for it all himself & usually do the cooking too. My condolences to his family.
