On July 18, 2020, Maheo called home our brother, uncle, grandpa, and one of a kind generous friend that many knew by his Indian name, “Cowah” Claude Douglas Goggles.
Claude attended school in Busby, MT and graduated there. He played basketball for the Busby Eagles and ran cross country. Claude had the talent of an artist. He was always drawing and painting projects. He made dancing regalia as he was a traditional dancer and loved to go to pow-wows. He enjoyed listening to peyote music and making crafts such as walking sticks, hand drums, drum sticks and other numerous items. He was recently the caretaker of the Tongue River Emergency Homeless Shelter.
Claude knew our traditional ways with having sweats with his brother, Ernest in Birney every Sunday praying for our people. He always had a helping hand and made sure you ate something. Claude had very special friends.
Tanita Killsnight and Fred Wolfblack, Jr., who watched over him and made sure he was okay.
Claude “Cowah” will be missed as he was always walking in Birney watching over our community. Claude leaves behind his family in Birney and many friends of Lame Deer.
Claude is survived by his sisters, Gloria Durgin, Ruby Goggles, Carol Hereford, Dolly (Ernest) Littlemouth, Sr., Patricia Oldman; brothers, Melvin Goggles, Justin Goggle, Hayes Goggles, Jr., Nelson White, Alec (Cassandra) Sandcrane; nieces, Jennifer Spotted Elk, September (Simon) Walksalong, Shawntay (Shawn) Oldman, Darcy Littlemouth, Angie Sandcrane; nephews, Ernest “Ace” (Pat) Littlemouth Jr., Kenny and Donnie Spotted Elk, Charlie (Carolyn) Oldman, relatives, Sandcranes, Standing Elks, Pines, Strange Owls, Rednecks, Bigback, Nightwalkers, Clubfoots, Fightingbears, Bellymules, Spotted Elks, and Little Mouths.

Claude I remember you drawing and painting a picture of a tepee in a meadow with some animal symbols in the picture and it was all by memory and free hand. It was on the hip bone of a deer. Journey well back home and let all our relatives know we miss them and look forward to seeing them again. Haho.
