Interment: Custer County Cemetery.
Helen Claudia Stanley, age 91, of Miles City passed away under Hospice care at Friendship Villa on Thursday, October 21, 2010.
Claudia was born on October 3, 1919 to John and Della Brodston at the family ranch in Broadus, MT. They sold the ranch and moved to Fort Keogh in Miles City when Claudia was eight years old where she and six brothers grew up.She married Donald Stanley in 1938 in Miles City, MT. Don purchased Volborg Store and Post Office in 1934, where they worked as a team for forty years. Don and Claudia had five children, and when the older children started high school, Claudia moved to Miles City part-time. Claudia worked at the Miles City Collection Agency and held various other jobs to help support the family.Claudia was a very independent woman and her love for driving took her around the United States to visit family and friends over the years. During hunting season you could find Claudia behind the scenes cooking and washing dishes for the many hunters camping at Volborg. One of Claudias passions was preparing for her yearly rummage sale. She never viewed anything as junk and could mend and fix whatever she would find, from furniture to clothing. Over the years, Claudia participated in bowling leagues, enjoyed sewing and gardening, was an active member of the Seventh Day Adventist church, a member of the Coalwood Ladies Aid, a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed writing letters to friends and family. Claudia was a strong woman of faith She will be truly missed by those lucky enough to know and understand her.
Claudia is survived by one brother Melvin Brodston of Rio Vista, CA; five children, Donald Stanley of Miles City, Dick (Jean) of Volborg, Jay Stanley of Billings, Sherill (Dan) Frickle of Billings and Jerry (Peggy) Stanley of Miles City as well as 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents and 5 brothers, Carl, George, Kenneth, Bob and Gary.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday October 27, 2010 in the chapel of Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home with family to receive friends from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. Funeral services will be held on Thursday October 28, 2010 at 2:00pm at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the family lot of the Custer County Cemetery in Miles City.
