Clayton Jay Sanchez
O’eheke (Little River)
In the early morning hour on August 5, 2016, Clayton Jay Sanchez, “O’eheke” (Little River), age 29 of Lame Deer, answered the call from the “other side camp” of the Ancient Relatives. There he will dwell in the everlasting love of Maheo. Clayton was born in Providence Center in Seattle, Washington on July 25, 1987 to Memory Calflooking and Charles Sanchez Jr.
Clayton was a member of the Northern Cheyenne Tribe and a member of the Crazy Dog Society. His work history included working with his church group, and most recently was employed by the Northern Cheyenne Housing Authority and Indian National Finals Rodeo. Clayton worked behind the scenes on many of the big tour rodeos, always lending a helping hand.
He did extensive traveling with his church group, he loved to attend rodeos, pow wow’s, basketball games, and made regular visits to family homes and friends. He participated in the annual Fort Robinson Outbreak Spiritual Run for over twelve years, first as a youth runner, and then later as a volunteer, chaperone, and driver. Clayton loved this community and was committed to the youth. He was a devout Lame Deer Morning Stars fan and would travel many miles to support the teams. He also participated in many Yellow Bird Activities as a volunteer: Horse Camps, Rodeo Schools, the Christmas Toy Giveaway, Thanksgiving Food Giveaway and just helping out any way that he could.
Clayton is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Charles Sanchez Sr.; maternal grandmother Pauline Upham; cousins: Aaron, Martin John, and Amethyst Sanchez.
Clayton was survived by his parents: Chuck Sanchez and Memory Calflooking; siblings: Jesse and Xochitl Sanchez, A.J. Snell Sanchez, Carlos Calflooking, Darrell and Devan American Horse, and Lesley Takes The Enemy; grandmother Marie Sanchez; aunts: Consuelo Gingrich and Charlotte Sanchez; uncles: Darryl, Gregory, John, Anthony Sanchez and Charles Sanchez; 35 cousins; and 13 nieces and nephews. His family includes Brady and Calflooking. Please forgive us if we forgot anyone, our family is so large it is hard to list everyone.

To Clayton’s parents, Marie, Uncles, Aunts and cousins: I have been praying and hurting for the family since Clayton’s passing. It is really unbelievable and hard to accept his death. This young man has made a lasting impression with the youth of Lame Deer. He gave his heart to our family with all of our young ones, encouraging them in basketball with his attendance to all the games for the Morning Stars. We will greatly miss his presence at their games and at the High School. Clayton especially touched the life of my granddaughter Tamia and Cross. After every game or at each cross-country event you could find Tamia sitting with Clayton and Nolan, hugging them both. I am so thankful that Clayton gave his heart to Tamia and supported her through cross-country, basketball and just being a father figure to her. May God grant your family strength, peace and comfort at this time. Rest in Peace Clayton- you will be greatly missed!

Prayers and Condolences to the family of Clayton, from what I hear, Clayton was very special to many people. Our community will feel the void of his caring and loving ways. May Maheo take him in his arms and lead him to a great Kingdom he prepared himself for. Prayers for comfort.

I hadn’t seen Clayton since he was just a little guy at Chuckie and Memory’s. I think he was about 4 or 5, but it was so cool when I met him as an adult because he still had the same face! I had the opportunity to work with this awesome young man here at the Northern Cheyenne Tribal Housing Authority. We went to Okebeh a couple of weeks ago and he was the driver of our pontoon boat, I was impressed because he was very cautious and knew what he was doing. I enjoyed his quiet sense of humor and his respectful manner. The most notable attribute was the connection he was able to make with our summer youth. My heart goes out to his family, especially his grandmother Marie. Prayers for the Sanchez family.

my memories of clayton, who was a wonderful and most caring human being. i loved seeing him with his grandmother my sister marie, just caring for her, taking time to go and play bingo with her, seeing him always trying meet her needs and just simply sharing time with her, he reminded me of old times when young ones always enjoyed attending to their grandparents. Clayton your journey may be hard because you left to soon, your kind and gentle heart will always be looking back, worrying about your loved ones because of your utmost caring, loving and gentle ways. i looked from afar always watching, admiring your kinda and gentle ways, like that of an old man with secrets and knowledge of true caring and loving gentle person. Grandson, don’t look back, now is your time to journey on, don’t worry, leave with prayers and blessing to your loved ones, leave with only goodness to all. look to where you will see all the loved ones that have gone before you, to be happy with and share you time with now. i will miss you dearly, you always gave me hope for a better tomorrow that many will look and follow your path of being kind, gentle, caring and loving ways that we as cheyennes should be. prayers and many blessings for your journey and my love, many prayers and blessings to those you love, your mother, father, siblings, grandmother, uncles, aunts, cousin, neices, nephews, all those who loved and cherished you. -will forever miss your loving smile and your gentle nature.

Clayton told me he wanted to spend time with his grandmother befor she died…he was going to bye a trailer in browning and live on his mothers land…unfortunately befor he could spead Gods word to his family members on the Cheyenne reservation and Blackfeet resevation the enemy took his life…Clayton Loved the Lord, his mother; who raised him all his life his dad,his brothers and sister. My prayer is that Claytons death is not in Vein! For those of you who knew Clayton, i kno He believed in the bible and studied the Word. He knew that you can not go to heaven without being, Born Again, (saved). I pray all those friends and even the family memeber back on the Cheyenne rez except Jesus as theirs Lord and savior, befor its too late, God is very proud of Clayton.. all those who have abused him or bullied him for rides, or stole his money Shame on You!! We will cast our cares upon God, for He cares for us who love Him
