On July 23, 2015 Clifford Crazymule slipped away quietly to return to Maheo’o. Clifford was born February 28, 1942 in Ashland, MT, the son of Xavier Crazymule and Roberta TangledYellowhair. He was raised in the Ashand along the Tongue River on the Northern Cheyenne Reservation.
Clifford went to school at St.Labre, Busby Boarding School and finishing up in Chamberline South Dakota. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, Clifford returned home from his service due to being Xavier’s only son.
Clifford spent his early years helping his family by being an avid hunter and a care taker of the elders in his family. He was proud of his Cheyenne Heritage. No matter where he lived or went he let them know that he was a Cheyenne. Clifford changed his name to Clifton Stanley it was his artist name when he lived in Oakland, California with his uncle Joe Littlewhirlwind.
Upon his return to Montana he lived in Lame Deer with his uncle James Crazymule. Clifford suffered from mental illness, most if his adult life was spent in Warm Springs State Hospital and the Mercury House in Butte, MT.
His Brother Eugene Beaverheart was his guardian for the last 20 years, he wants to let people know that Clifford never forgot his Cheyenne Language and his cultural ways. He will miss his brother, and all the skills he taught us, mainly being one of the best hunters he knows.

Clifford was proceeded in death by his parents Xavier Crazymule and Roberta Tangled Yellow Hair, his grandparents, his sister: Belva Littlebird, Beatrice Beaverheart and Marcella Crazymule, Brothers: Clarence and David Hart, Aunts: Ruth Crazymule, Clara Red Eagle, Josie Tangled Yellow Hair, Eva Woodenthigh , Winona Fox, Anastasia Whitecrane, Rosie Whitecrane, Mary Tangled Yellow Hair. Uncle: Brownie Curley, Joe Fox Sr., Joe Whitewolf Sr., James Jimmy Littlebird, Harry Littlebird Sr. In his younger years he had many good friends Arnold White Antalope, Jr. Littlebird, Theodore Seminole, Stella Red Robe, Josie Whiteman, Viola Teeth and Agnes Killsnight.
Clifford is survived by Eugene (Thelma) BeaverHeart, Martin Hart, numerous nieces and nephews from both side of his family. Good friend Author Teeth. Extended families include Little Bird, Spotted Elk, Whitecrane, Fox, Whitedirt, Woodenthigh, Littlewhirlwind, Yellownose, Tangled Yellow Hair and Crazymule.
Martin Hart and Eugene Beaverheart would like to thank the staff at St. Joseph Hospital and Dr. Raiser, the Crest Nursing Home, the Staff at the Mercury house and Sharon Dallolio for all the years of service taking care of Clifford Stanley.
