Cloey Scheer, age 93 passed away on September 22, 2016 at the McCone County Health Center in Circle, MT.
Cloey Scheer was born on February 7, 1923 in the family home northeast of Bloomfield, MT. Cloey was the second daughter of Bernard and Fannie (Miller) Soft. When two weeks old, her mother died, leaving a sister, Viola, then three and a half years old. Cloey was lovingly raised by aunt and uncle, Helena and Jonathan Graber, a Christian Mennonite family and reared as one of their own.
She was baptized and confirmed on November 15, 1938 from the American Lutheran Church in Richey by Rev. John Mehling. She became organist there when 16 years old and continued for sixteen years and also played in Deer Creek Lutheran Church and in 1953 in Zion Lutheran Church in Glendive and later in Circle.
In 1928 the Graber family moved to Richey where she attended elementary and high school, graduating from Richey High School in 1941. She worked as an apprentice in her sister’s beauty shop, chalking up 4,000 hours in experience, then went to Missoula Beauty School for textbook learning for six weeks. She received her beautician/cosmetologist licenses after passing the Montana State Board Examination, and worked many years in that capacity.
She married her high school sweetheart, Vernon Scheer, on October 27, 1944. They lived on a farm north of Richey for a short time then moved to Richey. She worked as a beautician while Vernon served in the army. After his discharge in 1946 they lived in Richey until 1953 when they moved to Glendive, and then in 1955 settled in Circle where Vernon worked for Mid-Rivers.
Five children were born to them, to complete a loving, but boisterous family. All became members of First Lutheran Church and she was an organist as well as participating in choir, taught Sunday School, taught Bethel Bible Series and was a member of the ladies organization.
Cloey enjoyed volunteer work managing the nursing home beauty shop for nine years. She loved music, knitting, Hardanger embroidery, calligraphy, the computer, genealogies, writing and baking.
Vernon and Cloey built Scheer’s Trailer Court and Laundromat in 1964, a business they enjoyed together. She was the editor of the Circle Banner for eight years. Above all she loved her family, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and was the happiest when they could all get together.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon in 2003 and an infant son, Marlin Gene in 1959; son Ordean and his wife, Kim in 2011; and son Daryl in 2012. Surviving are her other children’s families, DeWayne and June Scheer; Leanne and Art McCurdy, Alan and Nancy Scheer, and Nora Scheer, 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, and brothers Loren and Jim Soft.

Five sparrows sell for two coins of small value, do they not? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Have no fear; you are worth more than many sparrows.
