Steiner, 72, of Ackerman, MS formerly of Miles City, passed away March 6, 2009 after a long battle with metastasis colon cancer.
Cloyd was born June 4, 1936 at a private home in Miles City, MT. He was the first of 5 children born to Earl and Elsie Steiner. He always related to the (dirty thirties) and marveled at how his parents even managed to survive those years out on the Montana prairie on a homestead during some severe winters. In 1942, the family moved into town so his father could work on the Milwaukee RR and help in the War effort. Attending his school years in Miles City, he graduated from CCHS in 1955. After a year of Jr. College, he volunteered for the draft and spent 2 years in the 82nd Airborne. Upon his return he went back to work for his best friends Father, Dirk Doeden. He was active in this company from 1954 until his retirement. He and Jerry Doeden spent countless hours hunting and fishing together, harvesting much game over the years. He always claimed to be the better action shooter.
During the winter of 64/65, Cloyd was helping take care of about 1000 head of cattle during what was the worst winter in eastern Montana. On one of the rare opportunities to go to town, he had the good fortune to meet his real best friend and love of his life, Betty G McClure, from Ackerman, MS. December 23rd, 1965 found them at the altar in Enon church. To this union, three sons were born. (William Earl, Jay Cloyd, and Dennis DeWayne)
He is survived by his wife, Betty, sons William (Sandra), Jay (Jamie) and Dennis. Two grandsons, Sebastian and Dylan Steiner. Brothers, Dennis (Vi), and Kay B (Karla) a special nephew, Cody and many other nephews and one niece.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Gary and sister, Earlene.
Cloyd became very active in old cars and restoration work and loved to see them being driven. Hudson cars became his passion and he spent many hrs active in the Hudson-Essex-Terraplane club. After moving to Ackerman, MS he has accumulated many friends and enjoyed the Mississippi connection. He was also a Scoutmaster for 9 years and active in the Elks, charter member of the Miles City Optimists, Custer Rod and Gun, Boat Club, Eagles, High Plains Classic Cars and volunteered countless hrs on community projects.Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 in Mississippi.
