Surrounded by family, Clyde Morris died of natural causes at Miles City, Montana on February 18, 2009.
Clyde was born in Fort Benton to Nels and Esther Morris on October 1, 1918; he grew to manhood on the highline from Great Falls to Malta.Loved and respected by a broad network of family and friends, Clyde enjoyed an adventurous life. In his early teens, he wrangled horses and as expediter secured fodder for the small army of horses employed on his fathers road construction projects. In the 30s he was assigned to public works irrigation canals construction from Nebraska to Montana.Clyde married Phyllis Scollard in July, 1941. They moved to Bremerton, WA where he joined the war effort as ship construction welder, following which they returned to Montana to ranch and raise their family north of Dodson. In the 50s to early 60s he worked on road construction projects throughout Montana.
In the 1960s and 1970s, Clyde took a working leave of absence from Montana as a supervisor for Associated Engineers of Seattle. Notable Hawaii construction projects included the boat harbor in Keihi and a highway on the Big Island. Alaska projects included the Ketchikan airstrip, expansion projects at the Sitka and Bethel airports, and post-Good Friday earthquake reconstruction of the Homer Spit.During the 1980s, he formed 3 Morris construction which completed construction project for petroleum companies near Bairoil, WY. His son Skip took over on Clydes retirement later in the decade.Clyde was a compulsive motor home traveler, fisherman, and enjoyed coffee with friends wherever he traveled. Retirement hobbies included a gold mining invention and communications venture. Phyllis and Clyde spent retirement summers in Malta and winters in Havasu City, AZ.
Clyde was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis, sons Dale and Bud, 3 sisters and 2 brothers.
Survivors include sister Lelia Holmes in CA, son Skip & Wendy Morris of Colstrip, MT, daughter Donna & Riz Bigelow of Anchorage, AK, daughter Pam & Clark Kelly of Malta, MT; 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers a memorial contribution can be made in memory of Clyde to Holy Rosary Hospice of Miles City.
