Funeral Service: 10 a.m. Friday, July 14, at the Assembly of God Church in Poplar
Interment: following the service at the Poplar City Cemetery
On July 9, 2006, our beloved father, brother, and dear friend to all who knew him, left us behind to be with the Lord.
Cornelius Rufus Olney was born on February 1, 1955 to Melvin and Rebecca (Eagle) Olney. Cornelius accomplished much in his life. First, he completed Personal Development and Automotive degrees on January 23, 1975 at United Tribes. He then wandered around, working and traveling until the fall of 1984. He met Emerald Sparvier shortly after, and knew he was destined to start his family life with her. Together they had three sons whom they loved and cherished with all of their hearts: Cornelius Rufus Olney II, Cletus Shane Olney, and Nelson Travis Olney.
In June, 1992, Cornelius received his Hazardous Material Certification at A & S. He went on to earn his GED in September, 1994. Cornelius worked at A & S for a time, later receiving his First Responder and Ambulance Certificate in 1996. He worked with the ambulance until both he and his wifes health started to slowly deterioratemaking it necessary for him to stay at home and care for his beloved wife and boys. Cornelius also took care of their adopted daughters whom they loved with all their hearts: Chelsea Loren Sparvier and Aerial Alexandria Carpentier. He was deeply devoted to his beloved wife, Emmy, and missed her dearly after her death on April 3, 2005. He tried to go on without her by his side, but he only lasted for a little more than a year.
He is survived by his three sons: Cornelius R. II, Cletus S. and Nelson T. Olney, and his two adopted daughters: Chelsea Sparvier and Aerial Carpentier.
He is preceded in death by is wife, Emerald Sparvier, and his sister, Tangie Olney.
