Craig Henry Wenger, 69, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and a friend to all who knew him, passed away July 11, 2010, at his home in Helena with his wife Diane Wenger by his side.
Craig was born in Dillon on August 26, 1940 to Henry and Agnes (Hughes) Wenger and lived in the Big Hole Valley until 1954 when his family relocated to Helena. In 1964 he married Donna Dandro and had two children Lisa and Lance. They were later divorced.
Craig is best known for the Northside Welding Shop that he started and ran for over 50 years. He was a master of his work and samples of it can still be seen at ASARCO and the Henderson overpass. Although he was always inventing and re-engineering things he was always a cowboy at heart. In 1972 he started pursuing his true passion of cattle ranching. He spent the majority of his time raising cattle and maintaining his ranch in the Helena Valley.Craig always found joy in visiting with old friends and making new one's and was particularly proud of his life long friends from the 6th Ward. Craig enjoyed ranching and farming being outdoors and all of his extended family. He was very proud of all of his grandchildren and frequently recanted stories of things they did and said. He had a very special place in his heart for all of his dogs and was particularly devastated when his long time companion, Woodrow, passed away. Craig will always be remembered for his infectious smile, his good humored teasing, his hard work ethic and the way he was always willing to lend a hand. He was a true friend and will be missed.
Craig was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Diane; children Lisa Wenger, Lance (Wendy) Wenger, Sheila (Joe) Moravec, Loren (Kimberly) OBrien, Shane OBrien, and Brandy OBrien Strong; 18 grandchildren Tyler, Kaitlen, Ashley, Amber, Chesa, Killian, Kyle, Angelie, Kaylee, Danielle, Caleb, Shaniah, Shawn, Oren, Jeremiah, and Decker; brothers Joe (Cherry) Wenger, and Ed Weger; nephews Blaine (Rikki) Wenger, and Chad Wenger; niece Shawna Wenger; and various relatives remaining in the Big Hole Valley.
