Crawford Sankey passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his wife and family in Lame Deer, Montana on Sunday, April 26, 2015, at the age of 39.
Crawford was born and raised in Canton, Oklahoma. He then moved to Montana in 1997. He started work as Security for the Northern Cheyenne Tribe and dispatched as the Northern Cheyenne Ambulance Service as a dispatcher. In March of 2002 Crawford began his career in Law Enforcement for the Bureau of Indian Affairs where he was a dispatcher then later transferred to the Corrections Department until he retired in August 2014, as Lead Correctional Officer.
Crawford is survived by his loving wife Rhonda of 17 years; his children Kristina, Quinny (RedElk), Rhonda, Santos, Jaron, Nonee, Rhreamrea, and his babies, Sister and Chummy; his grandsons Carlos and Daniel; his adopted daughters, Ryhal Rowland, Jo Dene Bruisedhead and JK Kinzel; his adopted sons, Abraham Salois and David Runningrabbit; adopted parents Don “Pork Chops” and Ruthie Shoulderblade; his brothers, Winslow Sankey Jr, Robert Sankey, Kasey Sankey, Maurice Little Jr, Randy Elliott, Keith Shoulderblade, Thomas Shoulderblade, Joseph Haugen Sr, and Eric Sherman; his Sisters, Hattie White, Corlliss Sankey, Carol Phillips, Gea Hawk, and Halona Shoulderblade and special sister in law, Denise Salois; and all his special Brothers and Sisters in Blue.
Crawford is preceded in death by his parents, Winslow Sr. and Tonita Sankey, his father-in-law Eldon “Buzz” Salois, his brother, Deigo Sankey, his sister, Larenda Sankey, and his daughter Rosanne Fisher.
Visitation services will be 7:00 PM to 12:00 Midnight Wednesday April 29, 2015 at the Sankey Family Home HWY 212 MM 43 in Lame Deer, MT. Rosary & Vigil Services will be 7:00 PM Thursday April 30, 2015 at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial Services with full Law Enforcement Honors will be at 11:00 AM on Friday May 1, 2015 at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Lame Deer, MT. Graveside Services will be held immediately following Church Services at the Shoulderblade Family Cemetery South of Lame Deer, MT.

I met Sgt. Sankey while I was attending the Corrections Academy at the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Artesia, New Mexico. He was wonderful instructor and mentor. After that the Academy I spoke to him several times and I always enjoyed our conversations becausr he could always make me laugh.
