When Crystal was two years old, the family moved to Rogers, Arkansas for ashort time. In 1922, the family moved to Lincoln, Nebraska. While in Lincoln, Crystal started school. In 1924, the family moved to a farm in Bostwick, Nebraska. Crystal attended school in Bostwick through the l0th grade. Her junior and senior years of high school were accomplished at Superior High School in Superior, Nebraska from which she graduated in 1935. Following high school graduation, Crystal took one year of normal school training and then taught school for one year.
On April 18, 1936, Crystal married Leland Walter (Curly) Burge at Mankato, Kansas. Curly and Crystal established a home in Bostwick. This first home had very little furniture, no electricity, and no indoor plumbing. Curly worked for Ideal Cement Company in Superior, laboring there for 35 years prior to his death in 1974. While in Bostwick, a son, Donald Dee, was born. In 1938, the young family moved to Superior, Nebraska and in 1940 a daughter, Catherine Larene, was born. The Burge family was active in First Baptist Church in Superior. Crystal taught Sunday school, was the church pianist and organist, served on various boards and committees, and, for a long time, both Leland and Crystal were youth leaders. Crystal enjoyed being a housewife throughout her adult years. Following Curly's death in 1974, Crystal moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming to be near her daughter, son-in-law, and family. In 1979, Crystal married Chris Houtwed and moved to Ruskin, Nebraska. Chris died following a move in 1984 to Superior, Nebraska. Crystal then moved to Gillette, Wyoming in 1987, to again be near her daughter and family.
In 1991, Crystal married Ellis Bennor and made her home on the Bennor family place on Force Road near Gillette. Crystal and Ellis enjoyed traveling and spent some winter months in Arizona. They were active in Vineyard Christian Fellowship of Gillette and the Senior Center. Crystal' s deteriorating health kept her more and more confined to home over the last two years, severely limiting her activities. She did stay active by phone and email with her church family, friends and relatives. Crystal was preceded in death by her parents, two husband's, and four siblings.
Crystal is survived by her husband, Ellis, of the family home; her son, Don (Dianne) Burge of St. Peters, Missouri; her daughter, Catherine (Gordon) Harper of Gillette, Wyoming, six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews and their families.
