Daniel Fredrick Biery, (Uncle Dan), age 83 of Rosebud, Montana passed away Saturday, December 7th, 2019 from pneumonia and kidney failure at Rosebud Community Health Care Center, surrounded by his family.
Dan was born August 5, 1936, the son of Charles and Gladys (Bennett) Biery in Lytton, Iowa. As a young child, Dan moved several places with his family until settling in the Ingomar area. He graduated from the 8th grade at Pease Bottom Grade School. He graduated from Rosebud High School in 1956.
Following graduation, Dan worked construction and for Ralph Lee. He served in the Naval Reserve. In 1960 Dan purchased land near Rosebud with his twin brother Dick and sister-in-law, Geneva. They began their farming and ranching operations. Dan eventually moved a trailer on the ranch and lived and worked there for the past 60 years.
Once asked if he likes to gamble, Dan said farming and ranching WAS a big gamble. He would go with his buddy, Joe Seleg to Deadwood. In later years he loved to take trips to Yuma, Arizona and stop at all the casinos along the way with traveling companions, his sisters Kay Berdahl, Mary Ellen Watson, and Judy Juell.
Dan enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. His Sunday trips to Miles City to spend time with Daniel Boone. He spent many years bowling on a league. He would always be among those playing cards at family gatherings. You could count on him to be attending every graduation, wedding, funeral, and reunion of family members. Dan took in many nephews and nieces throughout the years. Among his pride and joy were Cliff and John Palmer. He truly doted on them and their kids.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather Hugh Moyer and his stepmother Pearl Biery; his brothers Ward Biery, Henry Biery, John Biery, Criss Biery, Richard (Dick) Biery, and Ken Biery; his sisters Kay Berdahl and Mary Ellen Watson; brother-in-laws Ben Berdahl, Harold Juell, and Charles Watson; stepbrother Donald and Harold Moyer.
Dan is survived by his sister, Judy Juell of Great Falls, Montana, brother, Ronald Biery of Belgrade, Montana; sister-in-laws Geneva Biery of Rosebud, Montana; Syliva Biery of Aberdeen, Washington, Sandra Biery of Hardin, Montana; Linda Birch of Big Timber; and Vicki Biery Little of Yuma, Arizona. Numerous nieces and nephews.
Dan is finally retired!

My Love Letter to Uncle Dan. You spoiled me by giving me rides to the bus stop in the winter when I would walk to the shop with wet hair. You made sure I got to work on time one day by driving down South Haynes Avenue at 60+ miles per hour (I forget the exact speed, but I think it was somewhere between 70 and 80). You took care of my mom and my siblings when Daddy died. You honored me and my father’s memory when you walked me down the isle when Denis and I got married 2 years ago. When Pastor Jim asked who gives this woman…you answered with a quivering voice on the verge of tears…”Her mother, her father and her uncle”. I will hold that dear forever. Because I was born on your 29th birthday, having you here after Daddy died made my birthday easier. Now that you are heaven, please take my love to my Daddy. Every time we talked on the phone we ended our call with I Love You. Please know that I LOVE YOU and will miss you.

Dear Biery family,
Our sincere sympathy on the loss of your beloved uncle (& brother-in-law). I always enjoyed visiting with
Dan whenever I saw him at the store when he came to Miles. Last saw him at Albertsons about a month ago.
Will always remember when my brother Jeff came to visit several years back now. Dad & Jeff, Brian & I went the back road to the ranch then to see cousin Jim and then over to see Dan. Later we all went to Forsyth and Dan met us there to eat chicken fried steak at the Speedway. Really enjoyed our visit that day.

I knew Dan most of my life as he lived on the place next to my Grandma and Grandpa Nolan on Rosebud creek. I remember being little and him and Dick stopping in for coffee a lot with Grandpa and any sweet treats Grandma Jean could toss on the table. They could sit and chat for hours. As I got older i’d run into Dan here in Miles at Walmart or Reynolds a lot and he always stopped and talked and joked with me. After my Grandparents moved to Miles in ’91, Dan would still stop to visit my Grandpa Ray until his health started to fail. He always had a smile and lots of bad jokes. He will be missed by many. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Special condolences to John and Cliff Palmer and their families, I know they were very close to Dan.
