Danie Garoutte, father and grandfather, passed away December 17, 2007 at the McCone County Nursing Home in Circle, Montana at the age of 93.
Danie was born on July 23, 1914 in Oswego, Montana the seventh child of Daniel D. and Cora Belle (Richmond) Garoutte, who had recently relocated to the Prairie Elk community from Missouri.
He received eight years of formal education at the Prairie Elk School although not a particularly willing student. His head was filled with the prospect of chasing horses and other manly pursuits. A lifelong love of animals was born at the early age and continued thru his entire life.
On October 27, 1937 Danie and Bessie H. Carlson were married at Valier, Montana and made there first home at Samuels, Idaho. They returned to Montana a year later and settled on the former Smith homestead in the Prairie Elk Community. Besides farming as a means of income in those early years of marriage, they milked cows and sold cream and Danie broke work horses. In 1944 he purchased a threshing machine and harvested for many in the neighborhood. Danie and Bessie continued to ranch and farm until 1985 when they retired to a home in Circle.
Danie was active in community affairs, serving on the local school board, Race and Rodeo, Farmers Union Elevator board and other civic activities.His last years of life were spent at the McCone County Nursing home.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bessie; son, John; brothers, Dale, Tom and Clifford; and sister, Helen.
Survivors include his daughter, Bonnie Breitbach ;son, Darrell (Nancy) Garoutte of Wolf Point; sister, Bertha Hansen of Idaho; and grandchildren, Tom Garoutte of Wolf Point, Callie (Luke) Royes of Enterprise, Oregon, and Kimberly Miller of Oklahoma. There are five great grandchildren, Addie and Lily, Isiah, Jasmine and Mia.
