Daniel James Wigert was born on May 18th, 1966, in Anaconda, MT to Janis and Gary Wigert. On the evening of February 12th, 2024, Danny passed away at his home. Danny was raised by his parents until 8th grade, and then he left to live with his Uncle Don and Aunt Linda Anderson to pursue his passion for rodeo. During his teenage years he was successful in saddle bronc and bull riding making it to the high school and college National Finals. As an adult he was successful in Rodeo as well, making it to the NRA Finals and qualifying in bull riding for the World Finals. He then married Queeda Wigert on September 14th, 1990, and had one son Brock Wigert and raised his daughter Tiora Ferguson.

In 2004 he relocated to Anaconda where he has been employed by the Montana State Prison until the time of his death. Danny enjoyed camping with his family, singing and playing guitar around the campfire, fishing at Georgetown Lake, and his recent favorite “dirt fishing” with Rick Wyant and brother Howie. Danny and his brother Shawn enjoyed making up lyrics and singing one of a kind songs about life.
Danny was a special guy at work too, where he made many people laugh and had many close friends there. There was never a dull moment and had a good rapport with everyone.

This makes my heart sad. We shared so many good times with Danny in our younger days. He was so filled with joy and quite mischievous A person couldn’t help but smile when he was around. I am praying for all of you this is a very difficult time. God knows.💕. Jonette Balsam Doeden

I always thought a lot of Danny. He was one of the good ones. When I lived in Colstrip he came over and asked if I would help him write his resume for the job in Anaconda. At 2 in the morning I finally had to tell him it was good enough cuz I had go to work at 7:30 am. Just know that I am thinking of all of your family.

This breaks my heart. When Dan was in my public speaking class at MCC many years ago, he gave a speech about bull riding. The punchline was that he was lying on the ground looking up at a bull and wondering what his mom must be thinking. When speeches were done for the day, I got up and told Dan, “I would much rather be standing in front of a group of people talking to them than to be lying on the ground looking up at a bull.” Dan’s simple reply was, “I’d rather be on the ground looking up at a bull.” From Dan I learned that bull riders are a very different breed of people. RIP, Dan.
