Daniel August Paul, age 79, of Miles City passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at the Holy Rosary Hospital in Miles City of a heart attack.
Dan was born on August 6, 1930 in Ryder, North Dakota to Charles and Edna (Goodrich) Paul. He attended school in Wilton, North Dakota and also Hopkins, Minnesota. Dan enlisted in the Army at an age younger than anyone should be asked, and he proudly served in the Pacific Ocean. In 1948, he married Deloris Lee in Bismarck, North Dakota and they celebrated 60 years together. To this union, 5 children were born.
Dan started out as a surveyor with the Bureau of Reclamation to go on to work for 30 years, ending as a powerline construction inspector. During those years, Dan and his family lived in Bismarck, ND, Miles City, MT, Phoenix, AZ, ONeill, NE, Garretson, SD, and back to Miles City following the Hydo Electric Powerline Construction work he loved. After retirement, he continued to work in the same capacity in the private sector.
Dan was a lifelong avid sportsman enjoying hunting, fishing, target shooting and snowmobiling. He was an active member of the VFW and served as commander for four years.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Alvin.
He is survived by his loving wife Deloris; daughters Patricia (Steven) Garback of Pony, Montana; Kathy (Dan) Drueke of ONeill, NE; Jeanette (Mike) Keter of Colorado Springs, CO; Lori (Scott) Herr of Mount Vernon, WA; a son Danny of Sherman, SD; and a sister Ione (Bill) Danley of Hopkins, MN.
Visitation will begin on Thursday, September 17, 2009 with family receiving friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Graveside services will be held on Friday, September 18, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Eastern Montana State Veteran Cemetery with full military honors provided by VFW Post 1579.
