Darrell Lee Hanson, age 76, of Ashland, MT passed away at the family ranch near Ashland on Monday, July 05, 2004.
Darrel was born on September 20, 1927 in Forsyth, MT to Perry and Florence (Murray) Hanson. He rode horseback to attend rural schools in Powder River County, graduating from Custer County District High School in 1945. He went to California State Polytechnic College where he met Marian Wineman and they were married on March 10, 1951 in Las Vegas, NV. Together they moved to the family ranch near Ashland. They then moved to California where they ranched for three years before returning home to Ashland, Montana and the family ranch where they have resided since. Darrel loved roping, riding, breaking horses and hunting, favorite hobbies which he passed on to his children. He was a charter member of the Stacey Roping Club. Darrel served over 25 years as a soil conservation service board member in Powder River County. He was also a 4-H leader for over 20 years helping Ranch Hand and Liscomb Mountain Club members break and train their horse projects.
Darrel is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marian, his children; Dan Hanson and his wife Nancy of Ingomar, MT, Louise Wilson and her husband Jim, of Alzada, MT, Jackie Musgrove and her husband Paul of Spring, TX and Andrew Hanson of Las Vegas, NV, three sisters; Eileen Beckman and her husband Carl Beckman of Luma, AZ, Grace Hines of Absorkee, MT and Iola Gierke and her husband George of Miles City, MT. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Perry and Florence.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 9, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at the Ashland School Auditorium. Interment will follow at the Ashland Cemetery in Ashland.
