In Memory Of

David Bean, age 77, of Miles City

April 9, 1940 – December 31, 2017

David Duane Bean, age 77, of Miles City passed away peacefully on the evening of December 31, 2017 (New Year’s Eve) at the VA Community Living Center of natural causes. Dave was comforted by family members singing his favorite gospel hymns.

David was the seventh of eight children born to the late Alvin and Anna (Nelson) Bean on April 9, 1940. Dave grew up in Williston, North Dakota and graduated from Williston High School in 1958. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy in San Diego, CA, where he served for a short period of time. Dave married his high school sweetheart, Betty Jensen daughter of the late Alfred and Marguerite Jensen, on August 26, 1960.  In 1961 they moved to Salt Lake City and started their family.  They had seven children:  Vicky, Michael, Richard, J.R., Mark, Matthew and Anna.  In 1970, their first three children passed away in a tragic accident.  After moving to Salt Lake City, Dave worked at various jobs.  He went into the tire business and opened his own “Dave Bean Tire” in Murray, Utah.  In 1986 he decided to move to Miles City, a smaller place to raise his family. Dave purchased a building on main street from Chuck Walters and started Rolling Rubber.  Dave loved the tire business and the personal touch he gave his customers at Rolling Rubber.

Dave enjoyed boating, fishing and camping with his family. In his later years he enjoyed puzzles, his afternoon Milky Way candy bars and looked forward to his grandchildren coming to spend time with him.  He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Dave is survived by Betty Bean of Miles City, his wife of 57 years; his children: J.R. (Carol) Bean of Miles City; Mark (Vanessa) Bean of Rockwall, TX; Matthew (Genie) Bean of Miles City and Anna (Seth) Lockie of Miles City; eleven grandchildren:  Ashley, Brianna, Jason, Samantha, Zachary, Cody, Conner Bean, Kadence, Kara, Kameron and Kaitlyn Lockie; a sister Joan Beam of Paducah, KY; sisters-in-law Kay Bean of Pleasanton, TX; Karen Putnam, Barbara (Gary) Rasmusson, Patty (Patrick) Collins, Mary Jo Oster and Judy Jensen; and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by three children:  Vicky, Michael and Richard Bean; his parents Alvin and Anna Bean; four brothers:  Donald, Leslie, Alvin and Melvin Bean; and two sisters:  Marge Townsend and Betty Hawley.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City with family receiving friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. A prayer service will follow the visitation at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 5, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Miles City. Interment will follow in the Custer County Cemetery. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Capital Fund or the charity of one’s choice.
