David Lewis Jones passed away Wednesday afternoon, June 30, 2010 with family and friends in attendance at Saint Peters Hospital.
Dave was born on January 20, 1922, son to William Munson Jones and Rachel Lewis Jones in Billings, Montana. He moved with his family to Oregon City, Oregon and later attended Eastern Montana College. He graduated and, after a short stretch as a dock worker, enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. He served with distinction in World War II Marine campaigns across the South Pacific.
After the war, Dave attended Montana University under the GI bill and met Ruth Nelson, his future wife. Ruth and Dave were married on October 18, 1947 at Saint Pauls Lutheran Church in Missoula. Sixty-two years of loving marriage followed.Dave taught and coached at Frenchtown for several years before he and Ruth moved to Helena to accept a position as State Manager of Horace Mann Insurance Company. He enjoyed a productive and rewarding forty-three years with Horace Mann before retiring in January of 1993.
Dave is survived by his wife, Ruth Jone's; Three sons, David T-C Jone's of Omaha, NE; Terry M-L Jone's of Hayden, ID; and Richard N-W Jone's of Vancouver, WA. He is survived by two daughters, Susan K-T Jone's of Vancouver, WA and Donna Gifford of Portland, OR. He is also survived by grand children, Caitrin and Norah; Ben and Olivia; Daniel, Shelley and Darcy.
