First and foremost, I want to honor and thank David for his military service as a jet fighter pilot in the Air Force. A very commendable accomplishment!
David was a year behind me when attending dear ol’ Custer County High School (He was Class of “52”) so we seldom had any interaction. I was aware of his strong ethnic upbringing on a farm in the rugged part of S.E. Montana and the true values that are embedded when being raised in that area. You had to be tough!
I didn’t have any contact with David until reading some emails between him and Joe (“Buzz”) Smith and soon started corresponding directly with him. Wow! I soon discovered that he had a complete awareness of everything that was important in life, be it politics, nature, cars, flying, weather, or just family and friendship. He was very keen about all of the political issues and I always appreciated his wise input as to what was truly happening. I’ll always believe that he was very disheartened with how the political issues were totally being trashed in the Tacoma/Seattle area.
David was a fantastic and expert photographer and I have hundreds of his special pictures. But what I miss most was his daily early morning pictures of “The Mountain”. Each morning, weather permitting, he would walk to the end of the runway which was next to his ‘apartment’ that was over the hangar where he kept his airplane and take a picture of Mt. Rainier. It was always a great way to anticipate the start of each day.
When I heard of David’s passing, it hit extremely hard and I was heartbroken. The last I knew he was on vacation at a relative’s ranch at Nye, Mont. He has his own secluded cabin right on the banks of the beautiful Stillwater River. His correspondence simply ceased so I was unaware of what the circumstances were, but “Oh”, how he is missed!

I was so sorry to read of the passing of David. It bought back memories of a time long ago when my family was visiting the Mosby place way up in the hills of the Spring Creek area. I believe we were there for a Sunshine homemaker cjub meeting. David and his sister Sally were riding bare back on horses and could they and did they ever go fast. That was some 74 years ago. I can close my eyes and still see those two kids having a great time.
