Funeral Service: Friday, December 19, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. on December 19, 2003 at the United Dakota Presbyterian Church
David O. Little Head went back to be with the Lord on December 15, 2003 in Bismarck, North Dakota. David wanted to be home with his family, and during his long illness, never lost his sense of humor or his determination.
Although he wasn't the oldest sibling in his family, he was the big brother, father figure, and gave everyone the strength they needed and found a way to be there for them, and helped them through their times of need.
David was born on November 7, 1951 in Poplar, MT to Elaine M. White Hawk and Arnold Little Head, Sr. He attended school in Wolf Point and in Lander, Wyoming. He later attended college and earned an Associates Degree. In 1975, he graduated from the BIA Indian Police Academy and continued a career in law enforcement working for the BIA Police Department, the Roosevelt County Sheriffs Office, the Wolf Point Police Department, and the Fort Peck Tribes Detention Services until 1998 when an injury forced him to retire from a career he loved and enjoyed.
David married the love of his life, Teresa Matejovsky on March 16, 1979 at the United Dakota Presbyterian Church in Wolf Point. Their special blessing, a son Raymond John, joined them. David loved children, and he and Terry raised close to 30 foster children throughout the years. David also had a special place in his heart for Brian Alvstad, who he thought of as a son. David loved to fish, hunt, and enjoyed the time he spent with his family and friends. He liked to spend time working on his guns, making his own ammunition and talking with friends and family. He especially enjoyed the Chili Cook Off, Demolition Derby, and watching the Stampede activities with his wife Terry and his son Raymond. David always enjoyed the time he spent with this family and friends. His maternal grandparents, Frederick and Louise White Hawk, paternal grandparents, Benjamin, and Evangaline (Bessie) Little Head; father Arnold Little Head, Sr., and a brother, Benjamin Little Head preceded him in death
David is survived by his wife Teresa (Terry) Little Head, his son Raymond Little Head, mother Elaine M. Cantrell; six brothers, Arnold (Linda) Little Head, Portland, OR, Gordon (Dynah) Little Head, Wolf Point, Alvin (Sandy) Little Head, Wolf Point, Gerald (Lisa) Little Head, Ronan, MT, Curtis (Angie) Cantrell, Wolf Point, Arlyn Little Head, Wolf Point, and a sister, Evelyn Little Head of Wolf Point. He is also survived by three aunts Delphine LeMay, of Riverside, Amanda (Chub) Crow Belt of Brockton, and May Dumont of Wolf Point, and a special niece Frances Weeks (James) Combs, of Wolf Point whom he was very proud. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews who he cared for very much.
In his special way, David was always giving and always thoughtful to others, the family was not surprised when he gave a precious gift by being an organ donor.
Viewing will start at 8 a.m. on December 19, 2003 at the United Dakota Presbyterian Church where David and Terry were married. Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. with Pastor Danny Lindsay officiating. Davids wishes were to be cremated so in lieu of a burial, a funeral procession will be lead through town, and the family would like everyone to stay after the services for a luncheon at the church.
