David Schlinker, age 93 of Miles City, formerly of Brockway, Montana passed away on Tuesday, October 31, 2006 at the Friendship Villa Care Center in Miles City.
David was born in Gackle, North Dakota on February 1, 1913, the son of John and Christina (Borth) Schlinker. At an early age he moved with his family to the Wasson Flats area where his dad homesteaded on the Little Dry. They then purchased a place on Timber Creek in the Watkins community where David was raised and attended country schools.
David was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1941, serving in Germany during World War II and earning the Purple Heart and Good Conduct medals. After his honorable discharge from the service in 1945, he retuned to Montana. On January 13, 1946, David and Marvel Rath were married in Billings, Montana. They then moved back to the homestead in Watkins; now known as Brockway, where they farmed and ranched. Marvel passed away in 1997 and shortly thereafter, David moved into Miles City and has lived at the Eagles Manor and TLC. David loved the land and being a rancher and farmer. There was nothing he enjoyed more than being around his cattle.
David is survived by his sister Leona Patrick of Deer Lodge, MT and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marvel, a brother Emil Schlinker, and two sisters, Pauline and Elsie Wolff.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 5, 2006 at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 6th, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will follow in the family lot of the Custer County Cemetery in Miles City. Condolences may be sent to the family by visitingwww.stevensonandsons.com.
