Burial: will follow in the family lot of Forsyth Cemetery
David Warren Whitney, age 80, of Red Lodge formerly of Forsyth passed away on January 2, 2009 at Beartooth Hospital and Health Center in Red Lodge.
David was born October 27, 1928, the son of Paul and Dorothy (Watson) Whitney in Sumatra, Montana. In 1929, the family moved to Mission Valley where his parents ranched. He spent his youth on the family ranch and attended schools in Vananda and Ingomar.
He was united in marriage to Winifred Fritzie Borer in 1948 in Billings, Mt. They later divorced. While living in Billings, David worked as a bellhop and than bartended at the General Custer Hotel. He later moved to Thermopolis where he owned and operated the Side Rail Bar for a couple of years. He returned to Billings and ranched in the Shepherd area. David moved to the Forsyth area in the early 1980s. David moved from Forsyth back to Billings and eventually retired in Red Lodge.
David enjoyed motorcycle riding, hunting and fishing
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Don Whitney and sister Pauline McDonald.
David is survived by his two sons, Michael Whitney and David Allen Whitney, his daughter Gayle (Bob) Martin and several grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Roy Whitney of Forsyth; his sisters, Marjie Johnson of Worland, Wyoming and Betty Newman of Forsyth.
