David Eugene Weeding, 62 years old, passed away on May 26, 2025 from a tragic bicycle accident. He will be dearly missed. Dave was known for his quick wit, animated joke telling and was the best whistler we all ever knew.
Dave was born in Bozeman, MT on February 7, 1963 to Cecil and Ada Weeding. He grew up in Jordan, MT graduating from Garfield County High School in 1981. He worked on the family ranch after graduating and then worked at Roaring Brook Dude Ranch in Lake George, New York as a trail guide. In April 1988, Dave met the love of his life, Laurie Belding, at the Fireman’s Ball in Jordan, MT. They have been together ever since. Dave worked on the family ranch until 1989, when he moved to Billings to attend Canole Morton Real Estate School, where he obtained his real estate license. He sold real estate through Best Realty for 2 years. Dave and Laurie were married on October 20, 1990 at Faith Chapel in Billings. After real estate, Dave took a sales job with Food Services of America. Dave and Laurie moved to Lewistown in 1993, continuing on with FSA. His charisma and ability to strike up a conversation with anyone made him an outstanding salesman. Throughout his career he was recognized for his achievements in this area. His sales employment included FSA, Cellular One, and Grainger. Dave’s current employment was with CHS as a District Sales Manager and Business Development Manager. He was a dedicated employee since 2014.
Dave and Laurie were blessed to have three children. On February 4, 1994 they welcomed their first child Jessica Pearl. Tyler David was born on May 9, 1995, both born in Lewistown. Colton Charles was born on December 26, 1998 in Billings. As the four grandchildren arrived, he was lovingly known as Poppy.
Dave and Laurie bought their house in Pompeys Pillar the summer of 2004. Purchasing a piece of property of his own was the fulfillment of a lifelong dream. Through the years, they raised their own beef and performance quarter-horses on the property. Dave discovered his natural ability to work with young horses. The ability and Dave’s dedication to this craft led him to participate in multiple Wild Mustang Makeover challenges where his talents were put on display, achieving Reserve Champion multiple times.
In 2009 he established Weeding’s Fencing with Laurie and worked alongside all 3 of their kids. Weeding’s Fencing was later taken over by Tyler who continues to run the business today.
In 2015, he discovered his love of bicycling from Laurie. From the moment he started, he never quit. He quickly found himself entering races, often looking for anyone and everyone he could to accompany him on a ride. The proudest moments of his cycling career consist of completing a centurion (continuous 100-mile ride) twice, riding the Mikelson Trail with Laurie and brother, Rod, riding the Hiawatha and Coeur d’Alene trail with Laurie, doing the Peaks to Prairie triathlon multiple times, including one time with Jessica and Tyler.
Dave loved to be active, and regularly ran with the Yellowstone Rim Runners club alongside Jessica and Colton. He especially loved joining the Spoke Shop on their group cycling rides. Many friends and family have been the recipients of his thriftiness and generosity when it came to bikes. He would never let lack of equipment be the reason you couldn’t ride with him. There were always enough bikes to go around. His love for activity and the outdoors led him across the finish line of many races, including more than a few half marathons and triathlons, including two Spartan Races. In 2019, he completed the full Montana Marathon with Jessica.
Recently, Dave had developed a passion for Pickleball and played with a variety of groups. In 2021, Dave hiked the Beaten Path from Cooke City to East Rosebud with Tyler, Colton and his brother Rod along with Chris and Ethan Malenowsky. He loved to camp, and was known for his ingenuity. He was at his best organizing a crew and setting up the tarps at camp when it rained. He loved music. Playing guitar, singing, and dancing with his bride brought him great joy.
Dave decided to be an organ donor, a lasting testament to his endless generosity. No matter the need, if anyone asked Dave for help, he would not hesitate to drop whatever he was doing to lend a helping hand.
Dave is survived by his wife, Laurie; children Jessica (Jordan) Stirling, Tyler (Rebekah), and Colton, and his four grandchildren: Casey & Cooper Stirling and Waylen & Witten Weeding. Also survived by his mom, Ada Weeding and brothers Doug, Rod (Gail) and Mark. He had numerous aunts, uncles and cousins as well. He was preceded in death by his dad, Cecil Weeding.
A celebration of life will be held at the Rhoadside Event Center, 143 Northern Avenue in Huntley, Montana on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at 3:00 pm. Please bring a lawn chair for the meal provided after the service. Burial with no service at graveside will take place Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at 3:30 pm at the Butte Creek Cemetery in Brusett, Montana.

I was shocked to read this. I hadn’t seen him in years and ended up buying a horse he had at the Nile. He always asked if I’d sell her back to him then grin…. he knew she is my sister’s heart horse… Prayers for comfort for his family. “DEATH, leaves a heartache NOONE can heal; LOVE, leaves a memory NOONE can steal”.
