Dean Clark Dillon, age 56, longtime farmer and businessman of Wolf Point and Colstrip, passed away along with his son Dennis in a parachute plane crash on Monday, June 28, 2004 at the family farm in McCone County, MT.
He was born May 3, 1948 to Clarence and Beatrice Gagne Dillon in Wolf Point.
Dean attended Sunnyside Grade School and graduated from Wolf Point High School. He then attended Wahpeton School of Science studying diesel mechanics. He enjoyed the sport of boxing becoming a Golden Glove Boxer. After graduating he worked in Minneapolis working for Zeigler Caterpillar until the illness of his father brought him back to the family farm.
In 1976 he married Mary Prevost from Lambert. They had two children, Dennis Dean born in 1982 and Mary Jolyn born in 1990. In 1986 he purchased the Jimtown Bar in Lame Deer. He was also the owner of D&Js Trading Post in Wolf Point.
Dean loved music and especially loved to dance and taught dancing lessons for many years. He was never too tired to dance. He enjoyed going on many hunting trips to such places as Canada, Alaska and Africa. He was planning to take his family back to Africa in July for another hunting trip. He loved his family and was so proud of his children and their accomplishments. Dean loved to work; in fact he was considered a workaholic. Whatever he put his mind to, he would accomplish. Dean was a successful elk, buffalo, and dryland grain farmer and businessman. He was a member of the MT. Elk Breeders Assoc., MT Bison Assoc.,
Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, and served on the Farmers Union board. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife Mary and daughter Jolyn of Wolf Point and Colstrip; his sisters Wilma Davis and Eileen (Ralph) Rigsby, both of Wolf Point; nieces and nephews Kent Rigsby, Karleen Wiens, Ellen Kant, Dave Davis, Bryan Prevost, Leah Cross, Michelle Fisher and Shawna Martin. His son Dennis who was also killed in this accident and his parents and brother preceded him in death.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 1 from 4 to 7 pm with a vigil service at 7 pm at Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 2 at 10 am at the Wolf Point High School Gymnasium. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
