In Memory Of

Delbert J. Moore, age 56, of Rosebud, MT

October 6, 1966 – September 21, 2023

Delbert Alkali Moore, 56, of Rosebud, passed away on September 21, 2023, in Billings, MT.

Delbert was born October 6, 1966, in Miles City, MT to Robert & Marjorie (Langton) Moore. Delbert was the first born out of four children. He attended grade school in Brockway and graduated from Circle High School. Following school, he went to Miles Community College where he was on the college rodeo team. After college he followed the rodeo circuit, all while working for various ranches in Eastern MT. He trained horses and put on colt starting schools, a true passion of his.

Throughout the years he would do horse shoeing, he was an excellent leatherworker, loved team roping. He loved to dance. Delbert really excelled at everything he put his mind to. He was a real prankster and always enjoyed making people laugh. He loved teaching Paige and Cotton all the things he knew about riding horses, roping, and the outdoors. God received a talented person.

Delbert really looked forward to getting to teach his grandkids how to ride and rope. He was the best papa to his grandbabies.

Chase them cows, and you and Butch stay out of trouble up there.

He is survived by his wife Tara of Rosebud; son Cotton and his wife Sara Moore of Worden, MT; one daughter Paige and her husband Troy Nahrgang of Loveland, Colorado; his parents Robert and Marjorie Moore of Brockway MT; two brothers Cactus and Jacinda Moore and Toby and Kristi Moore both of Miles City; One sister Crystal and husband Rod Miller of Miles City; two grandsons Luxen and Brydl and a third grandson on his way; and multiple nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and numerous aunts and uncles.

Family will Receive Friends Sunday, October 1, 2023 from 4-6 p.m. at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 2, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Forsyth Fairgrounds. Burial will follow in the Forsyth Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at the Exhibit Hall at the Forsyth Fairgrounds. Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home of Miles City has been entrusted with the arrangements.

In honoring what Delbert loved to do, the family asks in lieu of flowers, please make a memorial in Delbert’s name to the kids. They will be orchestrating a Memorial Roping in the following year to pay tribute to the man that raised them.

My heartfelt condolences go out to each and every one of you during this difficult time. There are never words that seem to take away the pain of loss but know in your hearts that Alkali had a ton of friends that thought the world of him. We all tend to drift apart over time at one point or another but he was one that could always be counted on for a hand or laugh. Taken too soon, but not forgotten. I pray that God will embrace each of you with His Agape love, and you will feel the peace that surpasses all understanding. God Bless.

Delbert was one of my MCC students very early in my career in Miles City. I enjoyed Delbert as a student and a person. I still remember one time we were talking about riding bucking horses (I think it was bareback). He told me in a matter-of-fact manner that riding a bucking horse was like sitting in a rocking chair; you just had to find the rhythm of the horse. Can’t say I was convinced, but I loved his explanation. My condolences to all of the family members. Delbert’s sister, Crystal, was a student of mine, as well. I enjoyed getting to know you, Crystal, along with your brother. My sincerest condolences to all of the family.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Delberts family. Every parents nightmare is to have your children go before you and Alkalai,s kids and grandkids will definitely miss him. He was definitely a character who lived an adventurous interesting life. Vicki and I will be unable to attend the funeral but our prayers are hoping you folks share many fond memories. Long ago when Delbert was a teenager he helped me brand calves
by roping and dragging calves while he had a broken leg with a cast on it . He definitely was a goer. Our sympathies are with his family.

Add your thoughts and memories. Upon approval they will be added.
