Dennis H. Johnsgard, 71, passed away after a long battle and complications of hydrocephalus on February 22, 2016 at Holy Rosary Extended Care in Miles City under the care of hospice.
Dennis was born on May 17, 1944 to Eleanore (Farsdale) and Harland Johnsgard in Fargo, ND. Dennis graduated from Custer County District High School in Miles City in 1962 and briefly attended Miles Community College in Miles City. He married Norma Sprandel of Miles City in 1963 and from this union, three children were born: Kevin, Vicky and Jennifer. Dennis shared his life with Norma from 1963 to 1991. He later married Valentina Shetinina in 1995. To this marriage he gained two step daughters: Annya and Svetlana. Dennis shared his life with Valentina from 1995 to 2002. He married Tamara Shundrik in 2004 and they shared seven years together. Dennis managed or co-owned the A&T Supply, Inc. in Miles City for a majority of his life. After the death of his father in 1987, he co-owned the A&T Supply, Inc. in Miles City until the store was sold in 1996. After selling A&T Supply he drove semi for a period of time and also drove the bus for the ROCKS Program. Dennis moved into the Extended Care Unit in 2008 due to failing health and lived there until the time of his passing. The family would like to thank the Extended Care Staff at Holy Rosary Hospital for many years of loving care for Dennis.
Dennis enjoyed hunting, fishing, working on cars and working on his semi. The love of his life was the time on the road driving his semi. He was a member and past president of the Lions Club and earned two perfect attendance medals for the years 2007 – 2008 and 2011 – 2012. Dennis put his heart and labor into helping build the quiet space and garden at the First Lutheran Church where members can enjoy the beauty and solitude there.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Eleanore and Harland. Dennis is survived by his son Kevin, of Miles City; Vicky (Rod) of Pearland, TX; Jennifer of Dilworth, MN. He is survived by his sisters Leanne (Richard) Dalke of Oklahoma City, OK and Lori Idland of Helena, MT; two grandchildren Riley and Justin Strom of Pearland, TX and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Miles City. Interment will follow in the family lot at the Custer County Cemetery.
