Dick Lee Ferguson was born December 1, 1946 to Jack and Georgia Ferguson in Forsyth, Montana and joined them in rest on September 30, 2021.
Dick spent is life in Forsyth, graduating from high school and attending college. He was a heavy equipment operator for many years, working for F & T Construction and Western Energy. Farming and Ranch was his real life work. He loved farming and ranching more than anything. He was a hardworking man. He enjoyed the outdoors: hunting, riding horses, working cattle, running the tractor and heavy equipment. His resting time was spent sitting at the table outside his house. He enjoyed all sports, too. He was a champion Wrestler and Football player in his younger days. Dick was always willing to give a helping hand to his neighbors, friends and family.
He is survived by his children, Sheri (Joe) Seleg, Jennifer Johnson, Bobbi (Wade) George, Justin (Tiffany) Ferguson, Malia (David) Busskohl, and Jody Wolfe. Siblings: Jack (Julia) Ferguson, Larry Ferguson, Betty Morris, Sue (Bob) Kaluza, Carol (Ron) Moore, Lori (Kenneth) Reierson, and his grandchildren and great grandkids and many cousins, nieces, nephews and many great friends.
He is preceded in death by his father, Jack Ferguson and mother Georgia Helen Johnson Ferguson, Sister Anna Barnett, and son-in-law Bob Johnson.
In honor of Dick’s wishes there will be no funeral service.
Family to receive friends will be held at the Library basement on October 23, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
To my kids: Don’t sit around feeling sorry for yourselves. Make do with what we have. Respect others. Dream, work, and fight for a brighter future. Never judge a person until you’ve walked in his shoes. If you fall, you can’t go anywhere unless you get up. Winning isn’t everything, it’s how the game is played, fair and honest. It doesn’t matter if you win or lose, if you did your best, that’s all that is asked. When all goes wrong for no apparent reason, there maybe a “Greater” force governing.

I will forever remember the hayride he took us on with his team of horses in the dead of winter. He was a family man and truly enjoyed working. My boys remember being human fence posts for his corrals every year. He had quirky ways about him, but I loved and respected him.

When I think of Dick, I remember watching his grandma watching him wrestle in the old gym at FHS. You knew when he was doing good when Grandma was on her feet, jumping and hitting the person next to her! Dick was a presence out of his time, his larger than life mustache took you back about a hundred years. Hard working is an inherited trait for the Ferguson’s!
Love to all of you—Betty, Sue, Carol, Lori, Jack and Larry and all the kids!

I became acquainted with Dick through my brother Mark. Mark worked for Dick on the ranch in 2017. I drove to Forsythe from Ohio in 2018 to visit Dick and shoot prairie dogs after my brother told me Dick would happy to have fewer prairie dogs on the ranch. Dick was a generous host and opinionated guy to discuss politics with or most any subject. Covid prevented a return trip in 2020 and 2021. I will miss hearing the stories from his life that he told and going to town with him to get his Coca Cola fix at the convenience store. I don’t think he was a religious man but I know he was a good human being. Thanks for the memories. Rest in peace.

The few short years I got to spend in this man’s life was wonderful. For a little while he was like a father to me as we lived on and helped with his ranch he became a lifetime family member of sorts. He was a very good man worked hard mentally what he said and would do almost anything for anyone. Even though I was really only around him a few years. I will never forget the things that man done for me and my family. And I will never forget the life I lived on his ranch under that big sky.
