Memorial service for Dixie Wood will be 10:00 AM, Friday, July 23, 2004 at the Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home in Gillette, Wyoming.
Dixie Wood, age 64, a Campbell County resident, passed away July 12, 2004, at her home in Gillette, Wyoming of natural causes.
Dixie Rose Wood was born June 13, 1940 the daughter of Merle and Naomi (Flint) Jordan in Gillette, Wyoming. Dixie was born and raised in Campbell County attending the Jordan Wagstaff School until the 8th grade, then attended the Campbell County High School in Gillette, Wyoming. On December 31, 1955, Dixie married Ted Carlton. While in Gillette, Dixie owned and operated Dixies Beauty Salon. Two children were born of this union and the couple later divorced. In 1971, she married Dale Means in Gillette, Wyoming. The couple combined their children: Rhonda, Clay, Deena and Ty. The family raised and moved horses which led them to many places such as West Virginia and Montana. The family moved to Alaska for Dales work in construction. The family moved to Shoshone, Wyoming for a few years and moved back to Gillette in 1982. Dale passed away in December of 1982. Dixie worked as a waitress at several places in food service prior to retiring.
Dixie enjoyed the outdoors especially fishing and camping. She also enjoyed crocheting, making blankets for her grandchildren, spending time with her grandchildren, and playing cards: especially cribbage and visiting with friends and family.
Dixie is survived by two sons: Ty (Jonene) Means; and step-son Clay Means both of Gillette, Wyoming; two daughtersDeena (Brad) Garinger of Denver Colorado; and Rhonda Kruger of Gillette, Wyoming; one brother, Mike Jordan of Campbell County; five step grandchildren and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her second husband, Dale Means.
