In Memory Of

Dodd Brott

Dodd was born July 25, 1909 on the family farm at Crawford, Nebraska to Rufus and Catherine Brott. There he grew up and received his education. In the early 30s, he came to Montana looking for employment. He worked in the tunnels during the building of the Fort Peck Dam. It was here at Cohagen that he met Mervyl Wetzbarger and they were married December 14, 1935 in Miles City. He and his new bride returned to Nebraska where they farmed and he worked WPA in the timber. In 1949, Dodd moved his family to Plevna, Montana where they continued to farm and raise cattle. In 1958, Dodd went to work at the Texas Petroleum plant north of Plevna where he was employed for 13 years. He lost his wife of 49 yeas when Mervyl passed away in 1985.

Dodds love music started as a young man playing a trumpet in a brass band. He got his first fiddle in the1920s, which he enjoyed playing over the years. In 1987, Dodd became a member of the Southeast Montana Fiddlers. Here he met Clara Dirks. They were married April 15, 1989 at Fallon where they made their home.

He is survived by his wife Clara of Fallon, daughter Norita fried of Plevna, two sons: Gary (Maggie) Brott of Akron, CO, and Ken (Debra) Brott of Plevna, ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He is also survived by three step daughters: Sharon (Sherm) Fluss of Terry, Dianne (Wade) Freibath of Sheridan, WY, Pam (Rocky) Ban of Laurel, seven step grandchildren, three step great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mervyl, his parents, son-in-law Elmer, one sister, and four brothers.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 24, 2003 from 1pm to 6pm at the Chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Terry, MT. A prayer service will be held on Sunday, August 24th at 7:00 pm at the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 25, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at the American Lutheran Church in Baker, MT. Internment will follow at the Union Community Cemetery in Plevna, MT.
