Donald (Don) G. Hubber, age 85, of Terry passed away on Friday, December 27, 2013 in Helena, MT.
Don was born September 26, 1928 in Belt, MT, the son of George and Susan Soha Hubber. He lived in Monarch, MT in his early years before moving to the family farm/ranch in Belt. He graduated from Belt High School in 1945 at the age of 16. In 1950 Don graduated from Montana State College in Bozeman with a degree in Range Management. On October 11, 1949 Don married Marcia Smith in Great Falls. They were able to celebrate their 50th anniversary before Marcia passed away on August 1, 2000. After graduating from college, Don served two years in the Army. Upon his discharge, he began work for the Soil Conservation Service in Helena. He was transferred to Terry in 1957, where he lived until 2010. While working for the SCS, he planted thousands of trees in Prairie County. Don served on the Terry City Council and later as City Clerk. Upon his retirement from the SCS, Don served as Prairie County Clerk & Recorder for three years, and then began what was probably his favorite job, delivering fuel to his friends in Prairie County for Cenex.
Besides being a terrific husband, father & grandfather, Grandpa Don was a dedicated Terry sports fan, spending numerous hours at baseball, football & basketball games. Later in life, he was an avid license plate collector.
Don was predeceased by an infant son, John; his parents; his wife, Marcia; and his sister, Mary Cleveland.

I am so sorry to hear of Don’s passing and our thoughts and prayers are with you. Many of my favorite memories growing up were from time spent in the Hubber household and I’ll always remember Don fondly.
Tom & Bernice Buckingham says
Dale, Dan, & Susie,
We too have great memories of Don. This summer when we went through Belt, Tom mentioned the time he & his dad went with Don to Great Falls & they drove through Belt on the way. My mother, Lois Zupanik, spoke highly of Don through her work & enjoyed his sense of humor. We also remember him as a landmark at sporting events.
Dick and Carol Scheetz says
Dale, Joan, and all of Don’s Family;
We are very sad to learn of Don’s passing. We very much enjoyed having him as a neighbor and have missed seeing him since his move. I was so glad that I got to include him in the parade with the “Old SCS Truck”, his face just sparkled as he threw the candy to the people along the street.
Carolyn and Gary Huber says
To the Hubber Family (with two B’s), Don will always be thought of in our family as a very kind and caring man. The community missed him greatly when he left Terry. The many services he did in our area are great memories for us all

Barbara Wilson Ifft says
My memories of Don include planting those endless rows of trees with my dad and making room in the family car so a couple of extra teenage fans could tag along to cheer on the Terriers. He had a generous spirit and a positive impact on so many.
Bruce Watters says
Condolences to Dale and Dan. I work with Herb Townsend, who had great admiration for your father.
Rod & Lynette Christensen says
To Don’s family:
With saddened hearts we send our love and condolensences. We are so thankful for having had Don in our lives; his wit and humor and gentle spirit enriched us in many ways. I, Lynette, must say Don has been one of my closest and dearest friends in my lifetime. I have the letters and cards he faithfully sent while still able and I will cherish these all my life. He sure loved his Marsha and children and was ever so proud of his grandchildren. He was blessed by each of you and you by him. I look forward to seeing him in Heaven where we can catch up from where we left off. Gone, but never forgotten.
With our prayers for you,
Rod & Lynette
Twila & Craig Lunde Family says
Susan, Dan, Dale and families – So sorry to hear about Don’s passing. He was such a gentle, caring person. Susan – I remember having get-togethers at your house with lots of our classmates there and your dad was so calm and seemed happy to have everyone there. Think we had our 10-year reunion at your house the one night too. May it comfort you to know he no longer suffers and is now sharing coffee with Marcia. Cherish your memories. TAKE CARE – GOD BLESS
Mark and Joy Yoakam says
Dan, Dale, and Suzi,
In the summers of 1971 and 1972 I truly met your father. Growing up in Terry I knew who he was, but never knew him. In those two summers Don and I spent untold hours together working the summer baseball and softball program in Terry. Don accepted this young kid into the program and taught him so many things. I would arrive at the field every morning at 7 AM and who was there painting signs before he went to work, your father.
I am now 63 and I have coached for over 40 years. I still take those things he taught me to every practice. I still tell young coaches about this man who had such great character.
Don taught me that you are never tired, there is always something else to do.
Don taught me the youth of every community is the life of the community.
Don taught me to always give of yourself.
Don taught me to never seek recognition, to know you are doing something good is enough.
I remember so many things and I could tell story after story but for now, just know that your father’s sprit and memory lives in the lives of every child that was fortunate enough to be touched by his infinite kindness.
Tom and Dana Weber says
Our condolences to the entire Hubber family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. I am sure you will always cherish your memories of your dad and your grandpa. Never forget all he joy he brought to your lives. Take care.
Ray and Linda says
So sorry to hear of Don’s passing. Marcia and Don were some of the first friends the Cashatt family had when they moved to Terry.
Ron & Connie Watts says
Dale, Danny, Susie and families—I have so many fond memories of this remarkable man. I to this day know most Mt county seat numbers–thanks to Don and including me in several family road trips!! Such an unselfish man, Don contributed so much to his community and so many individuals. I try to pass on as much as possible to my Grandkids and other young people the values Don instilled in so many of us. We have grandkids activities today, so will not be able to attend his services—but the entire family is definitely in my thoughts. Ron Watts and family.
