Donald Duane Carlson was born on June 26, 1931, in Rollette, North Dakota to Henry and Helga (Sormula) Carlson. He passed away on January 20, 2023, at the Prairie Community Nursing Home in Terry.
Donald grew up on the family farm in Rolla, North Dakota. In 1949 he married Annabell Wayne and they had two children, Nancy Ann and Roberta Gaye. In 1957 they divorced, and Don moved to Glasgow, MT where he was employed in construction and constructions equipment repair at the Glasgow AFB.
While in Glasgow Don met Ardis Burt. They married in 1959, Don adopted Ardi’s daughter Paula Kaye and then they had two more children Shelly Marie and Kelly Duane. The family then moved to Helena, MT, Belgrade, MT, and Billings, MT where Don was employed as a mechanic in highway construction.
In 1967, they moved to Miles City, MT where Don was employed at L.P. Anderson’s for the next five years as a mechanic and then parts manager. In 1973 Don started Carlson Machine & Rebuild and remained active in the shop until his late eighties. From 1997 to 2010 he also had a branch in Casper, Wyoming.
After 25 years, Don and Ardis divorced and in 1986 Don married Donna Lawrence. For the next 24 years, until Donna’s passing, they enjoyed gardening, traveling, and camping. They had a great love for their dogs, Cotton, Sheeba, and Keesha, who always traveled with them. And then Don had his final dog, Missy.
Don is survived by his daughters Nancy Lamden, Bobbi (Richard) Mickelson, and Shelly Beeler; son Kelly (Mencella) Carlson; and all his grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; brother Gary (Karen) Carlson; and sister Shirley (Charles) Rust.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Donna, and daughter Paula.
