Funeral services for Donald Edward Peterson, 84, of Gillette will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 23, 2005 the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Ginny Bettendorf officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Pisgah cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday at Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Donald died Wednesday, July 20, 2005 at Pioneer Manor of natural causes.
Donald was born March 19, 1921 the son of Edward and Almeda (Korr) Peterson in Mitchell, SD. He grew up in the Kimball, SD area and graduated from high school in Hartford, SD. During WWII he worked at Wright Patterson Air Base in Dayton, Ohio. Donald married Glendolyn Prunty on August 1, 1942 and they resided and raised their family in the Colton, SD area on a farm. The couple later moved to Bruce, SD and continued in the farming business. Donald and his family also lived and farmed in the Clear Lake, SD area. The couple moved to Gillette in 1980. Where Donald worked for and retired from the Gillette Public School system. After retirement Donald enjoyed traveling and being involved in activities with his grandchildren. In the mid 1990s Donald moved to Pioneer Apartments where he and Glendolyn continued living until Donalds health began to decline. Donald then moved to Pioneer Manor.
Donald enjoyed gardening both vegetables and flowers. His favorites were Roses, Gladiolas and strawberries, but he was most noted for his strawberries.
He is survived by his wife, Glendolyn, two sons; James (Brenda) Peterson and David (Sue) Peterson all of Gillette. Also, one brother; Charles (Mary Ann) of Colton, SD, and three sisters; Mary Jane Chesley of Yankton, SD, Dorothy (Mike) Valland and Evelyn Wilkenson both of Sioux Falls, SD. Donald is also survived by four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Donald is preceded in death by his parents. A Memorial has been established in Don Petersons name to the First United Methodist Church.
