Donald Ernest Goff Sr., age 65, of Miles City, died Saturday as a result of massive heart attack while in route from Washington back home to his family in Miles City.
Don was a caring, loving man born in Story City, Iowa on December 17, 1941. His parents, Ernest and Dorthy had 7 children; Don was the oldest then Floyd, Judy, Jerry, Carol, Jimmy and Bobby. With only a 7th grade education Don was very good with numbers. With little schooling Don self-taught himself by determination to be the best at anything and did so with great ease. Don's father started an elevator repair business and at the age of 16 this very smart, hardworking man was the foreman for his fathers business. While living Ada, MN with his family one summer at the fair Don met the love of his life, Janis Grieve. They soon married February 17, 1960 in Fort hood, TX where Don was stationed after enlisting in the Army. After his discharge from the service, Don and Janis moved back to Ada where they started a family. Don took great pride in his family as he worked hard and long to provide everything possible for them. He worked long hard hours in the elevator business, Truck Driving and in feedlots all over Montana, Minnesota, and North Dakota. He and Janis bought a farm in Fertile, MN and raised their family on the farm until 1981 when they permanently move to Miles City. Then in 1984 Don was able to take all his hard earned savings and started his very own Elevator Repair Business. Along with his two sons and many employees who Don considered to be family, he ran his business with great professionalism up until 1990 when his health forced him to sell out. Don, loving to drive the open roads and who was to stubborn to just sit around any longer, decided to venture along the highways and interstates again soon after his beloved soul mate passed in 1998.
Don is remembered as a dedicated, loving, religious man. He devoted his life to others especially his wife and family. Don treasured the holidays as his family all gathered together, he believed everyone should have someone during those times so it wasn't uncommon for him to invite those less fortunate to join his family for the holidays. Don cared about everyone and always put himself second. He was a very giving, hone'st man believing that if God provided you with more than you needed then help others and share among those who are not as lucky. There is so much to say about Don and his life but to sum it all up, he'll be remembered by his family and friends as a very hardworking, caring, hone'st, loving, generous man who wanted nothing more than to see his family happy.
His survivors include his 6 children Donald E. Goff Jr. (wife Kim), grandsons John (Fiance Jennifer), great granddaughter Ellie; Joey (Fiance Eva) great grandson Joey Jr.; Cody: Randy Goff grandkids Adam, Jessica and Kaydee: Penny Bonogofsky (husband Bob) Granddaughter Cassie (husband Brandon) great grandson Braxton: Cindy (husband Rick) Grandkids Jesse and Mandy: Betsy: and Tammy (Keith) Grandson Layne.
